The Magnum Hotel, Sunderland City, Sure Collection by Best Western

Lisa the Manager and Lindsay were absolutely amazing, one of my family has a gluten allergy and they couldn't have done anymore to ensure she was well fed. All the staff were great.

I stayed at the Magnum Hotel in Sunderland during Radio 1’s Big Weekend. I paid around £45 for the night, so I arrived expecting a basic value hotel — but I was completely wrong. From the moment I walked in, the welcome was warm and genuinely friendly, and I was even given my room two hours before check‑in. The room was spotless, spacious, and well‑equipped, and the bathroom was immaculate. Every time we left and returned, the staff were consistently brilliant. And the beds… easily the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. I normally wake at 6am; I slept until 9. Breakfast was included and genuinely delicious, with service that was once again exceptional. I’ve stayed in everything from budget hotels to high‑end properties. While the rooms here aren’t trying to be five‑star, the service, cleanliness, and overall experience absolutely are. I’ll definitely be back.

Stayed for two nights with my daughter and was pleasantly surprised as to how nice the hotel was. Outside appearance isn't great but for price and what you get for your money is great value and very comfortable as for the staff they are worth their weight in gold very polite cheerful and happy to engage in small talk I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed my stay I'd stay again in a heartbeat

Great staff. Rooms are clean and great for a short stay. Wonderful sausage sandwiches 🥪 😋

First time in Sunderland.

Okay for the price. Bed was comfy and room was clean. Main dissapointment was that the room (number 32) smelt like smoke. Other than that it was worth the 44 quid.

I was in the hotel for 4 days 3 night.Helen at the front desk provided exceptional hospitality during my stay. From the moment I arrived, she was warm, welcoming, and highly professional. She handled check-in smoothly, answered all my questions with patience, and went out of her way to make sure I felt comfortable and well taken care of. Her positive attitude and genuine care truly made a difference and set a great tone for my stay. Helen is a real asset to the hotel, and her excellent service did not go unnoticed.

I had a booking one month ago, one day before the booking a lady called me from the hotel and said the heater was off and they wouldn’t be able to fix it quickly. So, I requested the refund and she said she will process it straight away, I have received nothing yet, I called them and emailed them few times but no response either. This is unprofessional behaviour, I would never book with such a hotel, they should’ve been reliable. Never book unless with a well known hotel named.

I had to booked to stay overnight. When I arrived. I checked in approx 2045. Went to room. Seemed to be dirty room, as edges of carpet not hoovered. mattress exposed appeared tired. Hallway on 2nd floor smelled of weed and urine. The door just next to mines had been kicked off the hinges. Was wide open with damage. I raised issue with Khizai, I checked out and didn't stay as didn't feel safe. As seems to be shady individuals dealing drugs at the premises. I have messaged for resolution but no response to my messages and Expedia have tried to contact hotel twice, but nothing so will leave negative review. I would find somewhere else to stay as only positive is that the KFC and Mcdonalds are local. I checked out and paid for late 7hr coach ride home to London rather than stay there for the night. Never got a refund for the above so leaving my review.

Stayed here on business, nice staff, ended up with 100 pound parking fine, even though I was told it was sorted but trying to get hold of someone by phone to have it cancelled was impossible And ended up a expensive night. Needless to say I won’t be staying their again
