Spirit of the River Lodge

I spent a week in this beautiful place 😊 I loved it from day one. The personal attention, provided by the owners themselves, was wonderful—very kind, attentive, and always ready to offer the best service. The breakfast was excellent and very nutritious. Lunch was amazing and delicious 😋 Dinner was excellent! We also booked additional services like family rafting, which was great fun for my children, my husband, and me. They also surprised us with an outdoor bonfire.... Among other things, they offer massage and sauna services...we left feeling completely refreshed! A beautiful place full of trees, plants, flowers 🐝, and with access to the Vilcanota River 😯🍀.... Highly recommended for a family trip 💕🙋🏼✈️🚕

Incredible experience! Very peaceful and surrounded by nature, a hidden oasis in the Sacred Valley, very close to the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo and the Maras salt mines, the town of Urubamba, and services like restaurants and markets. The hosts were delightful, very kind people who made us feel at home, providing unique and personalized attention. My family and I enjoyed every moment in the river, the sauna, and the delicious breakfasts that Claudia lovingly prepared for us each morning. The dinners were delicious, and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. If you plan to come to the Sacred Valley, I highly recommend Spirit of the River Lodge.

We had a wonderful weekend with my wife and son at this unique place. The tranquility of the river and relaxing in the sauna were the best parts of choosing Spirit. We left happy thanks to the excellent service from Claudia and Rudi, our hosts.

If you can reserve a room here, just do it!!! The rooms are beautiful, the grounds as well and the river is gorgeous. But the real reason to book is Rudi and Claudia, the owners. They are so kind and helpful. We stayed for three nights and on two of the days Rudi gave us tours into Incan villages in the Sacred Valley. He is beyond knowledgeable about the Incas and his insights are fascinating. I could read several books and not get as much information as I got from him. One of the days we rode his ATV’s which was a lot of fun. Breakfast is good and included. We had 2 dinners at the lodge which were also very good. I highly recommend Organika Huerta - 2 km away - delicious food with garden on premises, lovely building and full bar.

Can you imagine planning your dream trip, traveling thousands of miles, preparing everything months in advance, making reservation payments, meticulously arranging all the details so that the locations and times match up, only to have a hotel tell you the day before that your reservation isn't confirmed, despite having received a confirmation email from them? Well, this is unthinkable, but it happened to us with this hotel. To make matters worse, they're putting up obstacles to getting our money back. They don't provide clear information about when and how they'll refund us, they've made us wait at various locations, and no one shows up or provides any information. The person handling WhatsApp doesn't seem to speak Spanish, which is perhaps making communication even more difficult. Now, they've sent us a "document" where we agree to waive our right to publish our experience in exchange for a refund? Seriously, if you can avoid this nightmare, don't book with them. Only now that we're here have we realized that there are hotels with better service and lower prices. We hope they resolve this as soon as possible and that we don't have to resort to legal action.

If you're planning to book directly with them, let me tell you about my problem. I made a reservation on February 4th, three months in advance. In May, I contacted them to let them know when I would arrive and sent them my reservation confirmation, which clearly shows payment was made, and I received a verification email. Unfortunately, they didn't receive the confirmation email, and I was left without a room. Please keep this in mind when booking with them. Similarly, getting a refund from them is a hassle. (It's clear the money was debited.)

A cute little lodge but our stay was sadly affected by ongoing construction. Rooms were tastefully decorated, super comfy beds and the sauna was a highlight! The lodge is constructing a large concrete building in the middle of the property, so unfortunately our views were of a construction site and we awoke to the sound of construction workers most days. It’s a small property so jackhammering and shovelling on site meant it was difficult to enjoy the yoga room or riverside, as the serenity is truly disrupted by noise, dust and mess. It’s a shame as I can see what a beautiful place this could be! Recommend checking whether construction is finished before booking, some transparency for guests would help manage expectations as it was a shock to wake up to an active construction site.

I got the best sleep in months under the stars with the sound of running water and awoke to birds chirping. A magical place. Highly recommend taking the quads tour with Rudi. Was a highlight of our year!

My son and I had a great experience at the lodge. It was a very tranquil place and we loved the sauna overlooking the river. Rudi and his wife made us feel at home. They even went above and beyond helping us get medicine when my son got sick. The food they served was also fantastic. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed for 2 nights at the lodge and we can’t thank enough Rudi and his family enough! The hospitality knows no boundaries and are ready to help where they can 🙏 It was a pleasure to learn from Rudi about the Inca rituals, astrology, mountains, herbs and culture. The rooms are amazing and the breakfast is chefs kiss. There are many things to do in the area zo highly recommend staying here.

What a fantastic experience! Both the owners and the place itself were great! The food was delicious and the beds are very comfortable. The sauna was a huge plus. The owner used to be a guide himself. He can give you a lot of information about the Incas and the region.

We had a lovely stay at Spirit of the River Lodge. Rudi and Claudia have built this special place from the ground up, and they made us feel at home. The sauna, yoga room and massage were a perfect treat after hiking the Inka Trail. We would definitely visit again.
