Gay Bars & Clubs in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta has one of the densest, most walkable gay nightlife scenes in Latin America, and almost all of it sits in Zona Romantica, the old town south of the Rio Cuale. Within a few blocks of Lazaro Cardenas, Basilio Badillo and Olas Altas you can move between dance clubs, drag cabarets, bear bars, piano lounges and beachfront sunset spots, often bumping into the same friendly faces along the way.
Dance Clubs
Paco's Ranch and CC Slaughters are the long-running dance institutions, both drawing mixed crowds for late nights of pop, drag and go-go shows. La Noche is a multi-level entertainment complex, and Industry is the newest and largest of the big clubs, built for serious dancing. Open Vallarta pulls a younger, high-energy crowd.
Drag & Cabaret
The Palm is a beloved cabaret with decades of seasons behind it, now joined by its sister room Coco Cabaret. Reinas and Divas serve up drag, karaoke and a warm, mature-friendly crowd, while La Catrina Cantina leans into Mexican cabaret and live singers. The theaters around Act2PV add more polished cabaret and live music.
Bear, Leather & Cruise Bars
STUDS on Basilio Badillo is the bear-and-leather anchor, with the newer Diablitos Cantina nearby for a laid-back bear crowd. Anonimo and Wetdreams are the cruisier late-night options.
Cocktails, Cantinas & Sunset Bars
Mr. Flamingo and The Corner Bar are the see-and-be-seen street-corner bars on Lazaro Cardenas. For something slower, Garbo is the piano-and-jazz room, Apaches and Sama pour martinis, and Signature Lounge and Kevin's Hideaway catch the sunset. La Cueva Cantina keeps it old-school Mexican, while Kooky and Desmadre handle karaoke and neighborhood-bar nights. Fiesta Bar, Cheeky Lounge, Elixir, One Six One and La Chachalaca round out the strip.
What to Expect
Bars are open nightly, with Thursday through Saturday the busiest. Dress is resort casual; bring comfortable shoes for the dance clubs. The legal drinking age is 18 and venues do check ID, so carry a passport or license. The whole scene is compact and walkable, and Zona Romantica stays lively and well-lit late into the night. As anywhere, keep an eye on your drink and valuables, and use official taxis or a ride-hailing app to get home after a big night.
