Love, love, love this lesbian-owned queer bar! It is so inclusive, welcoming, and wholesome. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I belonged. I had such a great conversation with Micah (sorry if I butchered your name!), and I just wanted to say thank you for putting a smile on my face during a difficult time. Your kindness truly meant more than you know. The drinks are fantastic, the vibe is incredible, and the people here are genuinely some of the most wholesome and welcoming I’ve met. I also really appreciate that they even have vegan options, which made me feel even more included. As someone who recently moved here from the East Coast, finding a space like this has meant so much to me. It’s more than just a bar—it’s a community. I absolutely love this place and can’t wait to come back. ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Never worth the money spent there. Last night I had another disappointing experience at CheerUps. And for a place that touts itself as being inclusive and community minded, they have proven over and over to not actually be so in practice. They hosted a karaoke event on their outdoor stage. My friends and I entered a little after 10pm and paid their cover and were instructed about how to scan a code to enter the queue for songs. We scanned the code and the Karafun karaoke app popped up (one of the worst signs that any karaoke host is going to be good or have any worthwhile songs in the limited songbook), but no song could actually be entered into the queue. I got up to ask the DJ, since there must be some other way to sign up. She then informed me that the queue was already full. I looked around at the maybe two dozen people and it didn’t seem that busy and for a Saturday night, main event stage. They had not mentioned anything about being full when we entered 10 minutes prior and still took our money. I asked for a refund and she told me they “don’t do refunds” and said the best they could do was get one person in my party in the queue at the end of the night if some people leave. I asked again for a refund since we had just entered. She said she would have to confer with the rest of the promoters. I went back to the front entry where I asked for a refund from the person who took my personal Venmo. She told me, “I’m sure we can do that, just let me check with the promoter.” She left and came back with the same person from the stage. She told me again that they don’t do refunds and I “paid for the event, not for karaoke.” Even though, I reiterated that no one informed my party at the door that they were full and we were not given the whole information for our purchase of the event. I told her this was false advertising and they took my money without fully informing us and when we found out the details minutes later they were unwilling to refund. Then they brought over a manager of Cheer Ups who told me that I was making the promoters feel uncomfortable and that I needed to leave. I asked again for my money back since now we certainly weren’t being given the event for which we paid and they refused and said that I just needed to leave. This is the experience that every autistic has every time they ask for clarification or justice. I feel like they couldn’t have been less inclusive or compassionate and could have easily resolved it by simply refunding our entry, even partially. I wasn’t demanding anything that wasn’t advertised, I simply wanted to know why they weren’t informing every purchaser who entered after they cut off the list that they weren’t buying access to a karaoke event anymore. More experiences than not are negative at Cheer Ups anymore. And for an organization that yearly calls on the community to bail them out of financial difficulties, you’d think they would back that community a little bit more in practice.
