$20 for 20 shrimp really
On my first trip to Charlotte this week, I picked Spice to stop by with a colleague after a quick search on Google. I didn't expect to find a new favorite spot - so much so that we came back a second night in a row! The food was superb. I had the lamb chops, steak, cauliflower, and shishitos. The chocolate mousse dessert was my top choice there. We also enjoyed every drink we ordered. (I recommend the Blush Bloom subbing in Empress). Our waiter and mixologist both nights was Shaman, who was the epitome of positive service. He was enjoyable to chat with and mixed the drinks to perfection - we both were ready to hire him for our next big party.
One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Spice encompasses flavors from all over the world and performs on each one. Every item on their menu has a unique quality making every bite so special. The drinks are crafted with care and precision complementing each bite of food. The atmosphere and staff are equally as impressive. From the minute you walk in the doors, you can feel the positive energy and lively environment. The staff is incredibly welcoming and kind. It is evident that every staff member is there to provide you with the best dining experience. From the gorgeous and friendly servers, to the charismatic bartenders, excellent managers (Zion and Lindsay) and perfect hosts ;) . Spice has cultivated an excellent staff and atmosphere that makes you want to come back every week. The design of this restaurant is elevated, stylish and sophisticated making it the perfect place for a special occasion, date night or just a night out when you want to treat yourself. The music is always on point and adds to the amazing energy of the restaurant. The combination of amazing food, beautiful ambiance, and exceptional service truly made this one of my favorite dining experiences. I would absolutely recommend SPICE Charlotte to anyone looking for something a little different and elevated. I can’t wait to come back again and again!
Food is tasty, nice atmosphere. Poor service if you are by yourself and stingy servings as well for the same reason. 2 main reasons I am giving a lower rating. 1. Firstly and most importantly, I felt very ignored as a party of 1. I came here by myself to celebrate my birthday and informed the waiter I was there to celebrate my bday when I first sat down at 4:45 pm. My server checked on me 3-4 times in the almost 2 hours I was there and I was one of the first people at the restaurant before they even started serving food. He would also take 15+ minutes to make my drink even though I was the only one sitting at the bar and had my order placed way before the other drinks I saw him making for other tables that ordered after me. It was clear I was not being prioritized in anyway because it was only me even though I sat at the bar to try and have speedier service. Not to mention the automatic 18% gratuity that was not disclosed anywhere for sitting at the bar even as a single person. 2. One of the several entrees I ordered was the Hamiri Roll. I was served a disrespectful portion of salmon on the roll. Like embarrassingly thin and I know that is not the norm because there are literal pictures on the google reviews and yelp of that same roll with much more generous slices of salmon. Very insulting for a $19 roll. All in all, I feel taken advantage of and disrespected on a day when I was wanting to treat myself to a nice meal and I know I will not be returning or recommending this place to any of my friends or workplace acquaintances for these exact reasons. We had a really enjoyable dinner at Spice Uptown. Alexis was fantastic—knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the experience even better. We ordered several appetizers to share. The portions are on the smaller side, but everything was well prepared and full of flavor. The fries were perfectly crispy and well seasoned, the Brussels sprouts were packed with flavor and crispy and the chicken skewers were nicely seasoned, but small. My favorite was definitely the cauliflower bites—they were super crunchy and served with an incredible bang bang-style sauce. The cocktails were the highlight of the meal. I had the Everything Nice tequila cocktail, which was delicious and beautifully balanced, although at $21 it felt a bit overpriced. If you’re a wine drinker, the selection is pretty limited. The least expensive white wine was $55, and unfortunately it wasn’t very impressive. We went around 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday, and it wasn’t very busy, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. We went for my friend‘s birthday and she couldn’t decide on desserts so they gave her one of each. Thought that was a very nice touch! My only real pet peeves were the automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill and that parking validation only covered an hour and a half. Overall, it was a good experience with friendly service, flavorful food, and excellent cocktails. I’m not sure it’s somewhere I’d rush back to, but I’m glad we gave it a try.
I tried Spice Charlotte and really enjoyed the whole experience. The food had bold flavor, the atmosphere felt lively, and it was a nice spot to sit down and enjoy a meal that felt a little different from the usual. I’d definitely go back when I’m in the mood for something flavorful and fun.
