[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css_animation=”none”]Someone You Can Build a Nest In is a delightfully bizarre cozy horror-romance that flips classic monster tropes completely on their head. The story follows Shesheshen, an amorphous blob monster who relies on human bones and organs to construct her temporary physical shape. When she is poisoned by a group of monster hunters, she is rescued by Homily—a kind-hearted human who mistakes her for a fellow human. As Homily nurses her back to health, an unexpected and deeply sweet romance blossoms, forcing Shesheshen to navigate the complexities of her first real crush while hiding her true, gooey identity from a family of notorious monster slayers.
The book brilliantly balances visceral body horror with a cozy, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy. Beyond the unique monster-human dynamic, the novel explores profound themes of trauma recovery, bodily autonomy, and what it truly means to care for someone rather than consume them. It’s a quick, inventive, and heartwarming read that will give us plenty of unique themes to dissect during our discussion!
