Johnson's Beach - Cabins and Campground

We stayed 9/23-24 and for the large amount that we paid, I was super disappointed. We arrived before the 4pm check in time but assumed there would be a check in area that we could ask about parking our car for the beach but there was no one there so we left and paid the $10 to park at the general Johnson’s beach parking area. When we came back at 430pm there was still not anyone at the check in area so we grabbed our envelop with our key. The cabin itself was clean and despite having an empty shampoo bottle, it had everything else that we needed. Bring your own lighter if you want a fire and just know that the check in area “sells firewood” but is only open after 6pm so luckily we had brought our own fire supplies. For the price that they charge you would think you’d arrive with a full set up for at least one fire. It was really loud with the campers and I wouldn’t say it was a clean or romantic place to stay. It was fine but for the price, I would not stay again.

For me, Johnson's Beach Campgrounds seems like the perfect place for first time campers or people who are more afraid to camp in the middle of nowhere. This campsite is a couple blocks away from the main street, has cabins and homes right next to the tent sites. They have actual toilets and showers separate from the tent site area. The beach got really crowded on a Sunday afternoon with several families and lots of children. Not necessarily ideal if you are looking for a tranquil getaway. They offer tube and paddle boat rentals if you want to enhance your swimming experience. The camping attendant didn't seem to be around for long, but was friendly when he was there. Overall I had a good experience. If you go prepared to be awaken by the sound of garbage trucks and morning traffic.

I just stayed at Johnson's Beach in one of the bungalows, and had the best experience. Heating, heated mattress, easy check-in, cute kitchenette, shower with great products, great style, 1 minute walk to the beach, 1 minute walk to town. I was blown away and will definitely be back!

STAY ELSEWHERE! I booked a bungalow based on the description- we arrived to find out that the laundry facilities (that show on Expedia AND the hotel's map that you receive at check in) haven't been available "since the flood last year". Our room was over 100° when we got to it and didn't cool down until well after 11 pm. We had to sleep (at least try) with windows and door open. Construction, slamming doors, an inefficient and loud fan paired with other guests made it the worst night of sleep ever. In the morning i noticed mold around the shower, and yellow spots on the ceiling. $500 for the night was an ABSOLUTE RIP OFF. Save your money and stay elsewhere!

Tent cabin. Not what I expected for sure. No lock on door. Met cool people there.

This was my first Glamping experience and I loved it. The tent was roomie and came with a fire pit and small table and a cooler. The bed was so comfortable; I need to know the brand because I am about to buy the same mattress for home. Can you tell me what it is Johnson’s Beach person?? Please and thank you.

The staff are so friendly. Chris was very helpful throughout the day with everything we needed. Moreover, he was a fun conversationalist. We enjoyed making a fire in one of the fire pits and met other friendly travelers. Other reviews about homeless made us skeptical about booking, but we didn't see that during our entire stay. We felt very safe on the premises. The heritage cabins have a nostalgic early 1900s vibe that reminds you of national parks. The room was extremely clean and all the fixtures were well kept. Though the room has no heat, the mattresses can be heated with a push of a button. The location can't be beat. Downtown is a 3 minute walk. Kayaks can be rented off season at R2D2. Johnson's Beach is quite large for a river beach. Starting the 3rd week of May, you can rent canoes and kayaks directly from the resort. The safeway is a 5 minute walk in case you want to buy things to grill.

What a wonderful campground right in the heart of Guerneville and right on the Russian River. Close walking to restaurants and Safeway yet still felt rustic and in nature. Chris, the manager is 6 out of 5 stars! and just a great host. He knows the area very well and is friendly and always helpful. This is the perfect place to camp or cabin in Guerneville. Firewood is available at the campground.

This is a nice place to camp and/or stay in the cabins. Nice little town to visit. The only thing that was not good was the showers never got hot it was only cold water.
