À propos de ce lieu Fort Tilden Beach

Fort Tilden Beach, located on the western end of the Rockaway Peninsula in New York City, has long been a cherished destination for the LGBTQ+ community. This wild, dune-backed stretch of coastline offers a more secluded and natural beach experience compared to its more bustling neighbors. For decades, this area has been known as a prime cruising spot, attracting a diverse queer crowd looking for sun, sea, and connection. Visitors can expect a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere at this beloved gay beach. While it's a natural environment, the sense of community is strong. It's a place where people can be themselves, enjoy the ocean breeze, and connect with others within the LGBTQ+ scene. The proximity to the larger Rockaway Beach area means that while this spot offers a more laid-back vibe, you're not entirely isolated from other amenities and the wider vibrant energy of the Rockaways. Pack your essentials, embrace the natural beauty, and enjoy a quintessential New York City queer beach day. Getting to this beautiful spot is part of the adventure. It's situated on the far western end of the Rockaway Peninsula, approximately 19 kilometers from the heart of New York City. Public transportation options are available, though planning your journey in advance is recommended to make the most of your visit. Remember to respect the natural environment and fellow beachgoers, ensuring this iconic gay beach remains a welcoming space for all.

As close to heaven as you can get in New York City. Better than the Hamptons, operated by the National Park Service, yet still a hidden gem where you can post up next to a part of the beach that’s closed for preservation and feel like you’re the only one there, at least earlier in the day, even in the summer.

Swimming & bathing/wading is strictly prohibited at Fort Tilden (not allowed). Nudity is not allowed either. STAY FAR AWAY from the nesting areas on the beach (marked with string). Do NOT walk in the vegetation ("beach grass"): it cannot withstand your feet or your butt! Dogs are never allowed off-leash at Gateway, and dogs are are forbidden on the beach from March 15 to Sept. 15th. Kites, helium balloons, fires, and barbeque grilling are not allowed on the beach, or anywhere in Fort Tilden. I love this place, but it is full of litter, and people breaking the rules. Visitors destroy the "beach grass", which was planted by volunteers on their hands and knees! This is a fishing beach, and NOT a beach for: swimming, nudity, bathing/wading, or dogs (when their owners don't follow the rules). The fine for not covering up your private parts (below the waist) is at least $180.
