Courtyard by Marriott Oakland Downtown

Overbooked hotel cancelled my reservation and front desk staff tried to gaslight me saying it was my fault for booking thru Expedia. The guest after me also had their reservation cancelled . The staff was saying all the wrong things. If you gonna mess up and over book, at least do it right and be apologetic don’t gaslight me and say it’s my fault

Updated review! I still enjoy staying at this property, but it's showing it's age, and it now has serious competition from the Hampton Inn a few blocks away. The wifi is slow (2MB or slower) in the rooms , though it's better in the hallways and common areas. I had to survive this on my own; the tech support ghosted me twice. I think they need to update their tech. The TVs in the rooms also seem to be 20 years old. No microwaves in the rooms, and the amenities used to be nicer. But the bed is very good and the shower has good pressure.

Great location, 5 minute walk from BART. Service was excellent, quiet location, and near some cute coffee shops and a Walgreens for convenience. This will be our go-to stay going forward! Thank you!

Rude staff. Pool was disgusting. Housekeeping never serviced the room during my stay. Room in disrepair. I would not ever stay here again.

extremely rude staff.

I Had a great time in Oakland staying at the Courtyard Marriott downtown. I went for a walk and they were having an Asian Stree Festival. It was very nice.

We stayed here for 3 days. It was quite excellent. There was an issue with the AC but they resolved it quickly (which tbh is impressive these days). The staff were courteous in all our interactions. The lobby was spacious and not loud. The hotel is a short walk to many interesting things to do. Would Courtyard again.

Wanted to book 4 weeks for business, they wouldn’t even show me a room I came in as a business traveler planning to stay about four weeks. Before committing to a booking that long I asked if I could quickly see a room first, since I have a medical reason to check a few things in the room before staying somewhere for a month. I even offered to have a staff member come along. Flat no. They told me it’s “a rule” that rooms can’t be viewed. No manager, no alternative, no photos of the room type, no offer to let me check in and switch or cancel if the room didn’t work. Nothing. Just no. I wasn’t asking for an upgrade or a discount. I was asking for five minutes with a staff member present before spending a month’s worth of money at this hotel. For a hotel that’s supposedly built for business travelers, that’s a pretty remarkable way to handle a long stay request. If you’re considering an extended stay here or need anything checked before booking, don’t expect any flexibility. I took my four weeks somewhere else.

The staff were phenomenal and Cafe staff so warm and professional. Anika was very patient with our large group.

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was kind and helpful. Only downside is that parking is $54 per day after the $45 mandatory valet charge and $9 city tax :(

This is a great hotel made possible by its amazing staff. The rooms are clean and spacious, beds are comfortable, cafe is on point, and its walking distance to professional offices, great restaurants and BART. But the best part is the people. Thank you to everyone who made my work stay in the Town so comfortable—Michael, Amika, Nalafey, K, Faith, Alanah, and Amber at the front desk. It was so nice being welcomed by yall when i came in from the office everyday. Justin in the cafe is my dog! Annie in housekeeping is so sweet. The security guards held it down. Valet dudes are great—wassup Biz! Marriot, please give the entire staff at this location a raise. I look forward to my next stay here.
