I stayed at the Rise Uptown Hotel for a short solo trip to Phoenix, and it's a genuinely charming place with a lot of personality — just a few things worth knowing going in. The vibe is 70s retro meets old Hollywood, and they commit to it. Brass finishings everywhere — door handles, cabinet hardware, a mirrored circular tray, even a ceiling planter. There's a Marshall vintage radio, a wine fridge, a safe, a steamer (no iron, but a steamer), and a full-length mirror. The bed was comfortable, the shower was spacious, and the room was quiet. It's a smaller room — perfect for a solo traveler or a couple who doesn't need a lot of space. It looks like a converted motel, which actually adds to the character rather than detracting from it. The amenities are fun and thoughtful. Check-in included welcome popsicles (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and a room credit for the restaurant. There's a pool, a hot tub, lounge chairs, adult floaties, and a foosball table. The vinyl record library was a highlight — you can borrow up to three albums and request a record player for your room. There's also a rooftop lounge, though it's only open on Thursdays. Ground floor rooms have private patios, and there are additional public restrooms on each floor, which is a nice touch. The bar and restaurant are spacious, and the bartender was kind. Check-in felt casual and laid back. One practical heads up: there are no USB or USB-C charging ports in the room. Bring a charging brick. Now, the water. The room comes with large bottles of water — 33oz — priced at $8 each. That's just ridiculous, and it feels like a gotcha in a place that otherwise seems to genuinely care about the guest experience. It was disappointing. My advice: bring your own water. The neighborhood is Uptown Phoenix, and it's in transition — a mix of newer upscale spots moving into older shopping centers. Right nearby you'll find Cartel Roasting Company (adjacent to the hotel, open 7am–4pm), Toasted Owl Cafe just steps away, and about a 10-minute walk gets you to Uptown Plaza where The Henry, Salt & Straw, Clovr spa, West Elm, and a nice grocery store all live. It's a mixed bag depending on which direction you wander, but there's plenty within reach. If you're using Waymo, the hotel is on the route — convenient if you're getting around the city without a car. I'd stay here again. It's not trying to be a cookie-cutter hotel, and that's exactly the point.
Genuinely a wonderful one night stay here which made our experience in Phoenix one to remember. Lylo pool bar was a great place to grab lunch and read by the pool, the coffee shop next door was also a great morning stop. Rooms were clean and spacious and staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Shoutout to Darius for being especially hospitable and accommodating!
checked in at around 7:15pm to a hot room with the ac not turning on. we came to the front desk at 7:45pm to let them know we need maintenance or a room change. and the one person working the property seems to be backed up. poor guy, the place seems a little understaffed but the guy is working as hard as he can to make it work. he was patient, caring and understanding. get him more help.
AMAZING! One of my fav hotels I’ve stayed at to date. And I travel a lot. Do not let the negative reviews fool you, I nearly did. This place is super clean, rooms immaculate and cleaned everyday (and I’m a complete snob with cleaning). Really comfy bed and one of the best sleeps I have had in ages. You can also rent a record player and vinyls from reception, and get nice ice creams! Lovely staff and good food. I have zero complaints and will 100% be back. My friend stayed downtown at one of the more expensive chains and even she was jealous. Good location next to a gym and in a quieter part to downtown. It really feels like a 5 star hotel with a cool vibe. If you’re in Phoenix I recommend you stay here. Trust me I did the research and have zero regrets.
What an awesome find! Here for a conference downtown and staying here for several nights. The rooms are great, no complaints. Staff very friendly. The popsicles…I want them all. Very convenient to jump on the B line to go downtown. Would definitely stay again if town.
Awesome hotel, but predatory “amenities fee” is asinine and not explained at all until I checked out. At the time of booking the additional nightly fee was $40/night. Yes, they give you a “food voucher” but prices are inflated and quality is deflated to match this cost. It’s a shame because it’s a great hotel but business practices like this are lame. Just charge the actual price lol.
We just had our wedding at Rise and our expectations were exceeded at every chance. What a beautiful venue to host such an important day for us. Staff were incredibly helpful and on top of everything for not only myself and my now wife(!!!), but for all guests staying at the hotel. I would recommend rise/don woods/lylo without hesitation for a wedding or stay. Management was attentive and a huge part in helping things run smoothly, the food was amazing both for the big day and the night before, and the servers killed it every time. Rooms were amazing and everything was well taken care of. It was a beautiful experience through and through. I cannot thank staff enough for their assistance, especially when they suggested and helped organize an hour delay with the ceremony and reception due to rain. It was something I couldn’t even begin to tackle an hour before I was supposed to say I do, but all sides of management communicated with vendors and staff to make every detail perfect and it went off without a hitch. The weather ended up perfect just by waiting a little longer too! My deepest appreciation for everyone at rise for helping make our stay and wedding the best night(s) of our lives. Shout out to Paul, Teagan, and all of the bartenders working that evening. Also the cocktails they came up for us came out wonderful, some amazingly skilled staff.
