Portland Harbor Hotel

The only thing lacking was the restaurant, not the best food I've had.

Great location…that’s it. the cleanliness and safety standards were completely unacceptable. Our room smelled like cat urine when we arrived, I had to ask three times for the pull-out bed to be made, we were ignored for 20 minutes at breakfast despite having a reservation, and I found a strange sticky substance on the floor after housekeeping had cleaned. The final straw was finding TWO loose, unidentified pills under the bed after my young daughter dropped something. What if she had found them first and put them in her mouth? For a hotel at this price point, this is beyond disappointing. Finding medication left behind from a previous guest is not simply poor housekeeping; it is a serious safety issue that could have ended very differently. The staff were lovely, but I cannot recommend a hotel where I have to worry whether the room is actually clean and safe for my child.

This hotel is clearly riding a reputation it earned decades ago. For the price you pay to stay here it is not even remotely adequate. This is a budget hotel faking it as a luxury location, I have been far more comfortable at Holiday Inns in the past. Rude staff, poor communication, bad facilities and services, uncomfortable rooms, etc… I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere at this price point. Portland is a lovely spot with lots of options, this spot isn’t one of them.

My wife and I cannot thank the staff at the Portland Harbor Hotel enough for our recent stay. We were originally scheduled to arrive a week later, but a family emergency required us to come sooner. The amazing team at PHH met our unexpected needs with a level of kindness and empathy that is rare in today’s world. Their professionalism, genuine care, and commitment to excellence should set the standard for every business. From our initial call from the road with Devon to the final day of our stay, my family felt respected, cared for, and deeply supported. We recently lost a close family member and were running around trying to care for everyone else—and it was only possible because the PHH team cared for us. They blessed us with the highest level of hospitality, humanity, and compassion. As always, our room was pristine, and the service was flawless. The entire team—from the front desk to valet—is always helpful, courteous, and professional without ever feeling invasive. Everyone at PHH has our deepest gratitude. A special mention and extended thank you goes to Devon: your kindness, attentiveness, and dedication made all the difference for our family during an extraordinarily difficult time. Highest recommendation! A wonderful hotel with attention to detail. Devin at the front desk was a standout employee - very welcoming and professional. The penthouse king suite with a jacuzzi tub facing the courtyard was one of the best rooms I’ve ever stayed in. Luxurious, completely quiet, with beautiful harbor views. Room service was super fast and delicious (we spent our $35 per day credit here). The pantry on each floor is a lovely touch as well as the complimentary bikes, outdoor fire pit, and down parkas. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

After five years at the Portland Regency we thought we would try a new hotel. Not because we don’t like the Regency, but it is impossible to get a desk there (and I always have at least some work to do). The Portland Harbor Hotel is pretty much the same price, but they charge for everything. A $35 resort fee that forces you to buy stuff you don’t need (I don’t come to Portland to eat at the hotel thank you very much). $30 for a robe. No in room coffee (and the machine on our floor was broken). The linens were cheap and felt more like a Hampton Inn. Worst of all, there is a single elevator that cannot handle the traffic. It is extremely well located and has a lovely outdoor garden. But the bar doesn’t stay open late enough for us to have a nightcap by the fire when we returned at 11pm. Everything was just worse than the Regency. Except for the desk. I really appreciated having one.

You can’t beat this location and level of comfort! Our room (two queen beds) was pristinely clean and decorated upon our arrival. The bathroom outdid any expectation that I had with a deep soaking tub and spacious stand-alone shower. I loved the details in the toiletries that were available, including earth-friendly products and makeup remover! Just across the street from the hotel lies one of the original cobble stone streets with tons of bars and restaurants, and endless little shops to explore beyond that. Each floor at the hotel had the sweetest and most thoughtful pantry area that provided complimentary snacks, tea, coffee, and water. I was actually very impressed with the products that they kept in stock (everything from cookies, to yogurt and granola). I also loved that there were bikes with cute little baskets on the front that were also complimentary with a stay. The detailing was perfection here!

We *loved" the Portland Harbor Hotel. This is how hotels should be. Warm and friendly check-in, helpful staff every step of the way, quiet room, comfortable bed, easy access to Portland sites, attractions, & restaurants, and the easiest valet parking we've ever encountered. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here. We highly recommend!

I booked the Portland Harbor Hotel based on its location and the many positive reviews, so we arrived with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing, especially considering that we paid approximately $900 per night + a valet parking fee. We will not stay here again. We travel frequently around the world and have stayed everywhere from very basic hotels to five-star properties. We understand that no hotel is perfect, but at this price point, we expected a much higher level of service and attention to detail. We arrived early and asked whether an early check-in might be possible. The receptionist told us that our room had been upgraded, that it was almost ready, and that he would call us as soon as it became available. We went out to explore Portland while we waited. Several hours passed, but we never received a call. By around 3:30 p.m., we were exhausted and returned to the hotel. We went to the front desk to ask about the room and discovered that it was already ready. Despite specifically telling us that he would call, no one had bothered to let us know. Our upgraded room was a suite, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, it was incredibly noisy. We could clearly hear loud music from outside, as well as what sounded like mechanical or boiler equipment that periodically turned on. The noise significantly affected our sleep. The most frustrating part of the experience came at checkout. We noticed an additional charge of approximately $35 and asked about it. We were told that if we spent $35 at the hotel shop, the charge would essentially be credited back. This made very little sense to us, since it meant spending money on items we neither wanted nor needed. We were later told that the charge was apparently related to a bottle of water taken from the room refrigerator. For a hotel charging around $950 per night, this felt particularly petty and poorly communicated. Adding to the frustration, our room was also supposed to include a bottle of wine, but we never received it. Any one of these issues on its own might have been minor. Taken together—the failure to contact us when our room was ready, the excessive noise, the confusing additional charge, and the missing amenity—they left us feeling that the service simply did not match the price or expectations set by the hotel. We left extremely disappointed. For approximately $950 per night, there are certain standards of service and hospitality that guests should reasonably expect, and unfortunately, our experience at the Portland Harbor Hotel fell well short of those standards. We would not stay here again, and based on our experience, we cannot recommend it to others.
