The Westgate Hotel

Prime location in San Diego. Large rooms and excellent amenities. Delicious breakfast. Very good service.

The hotel lobby is beautiful. The fitness area is amazing and the pool on top of fitness area is great. The rooms are falling apart. On my first day I got locked in the bathroom, because the door handle didn’t work. Thank God my husband was in the room. The toilet flushes supper slow. The hot water drips for 60 seconds before full flow comes through. The shower door could shatter at anytime as it is practically falling out of the wall. Speaking of walls, they are extremely thin and you can hear your neighbors conversations especially if they are drunk. We set our garbage can outside our room to be emptied and 6 hours later it was still sitting there. There is no microwave in the room and the refrigerator is extremely small so you are forced to eat their food. Their food is pretty good but very expensive. One night we called to see why our dinner never arrived after waiting for one hour. They said they thought it was a take out order and it had been sitting out waiting for someone….. they brought the food up to us. The food was cold and the one thing we asked for several times was ranch and that was not included. We asked if they would recook our meal but they said the kitchen was closed. The manager did say that we get that meal for free. The pillows are horrible, but the bed is firm. We will not ever stay here again. I think we will be sticking with air bnb.

So dreamy and beautiful here! The hotel boasts of many amenities here, you definitely will enjoy your stay. I absolutely LOVED the rooftop pool which also has an outdoor workout area that wraps around the pool area, but done elegantly. You also can order food and drinks straight from the bar located at the pool, so you don’t have to inconvenience yourself for food. The pool is quite large and there’s a jacuzzi as well. I also relished of the infrared light therapy booth that’s also right in the rooftop pool area. There was plenty of pool lounging chairs and the mini cabana types as well. The pool is located in the adjacent building that also has saunas and spa facilities. There’s also a fitness indoor area, which I believe is the largest fully stocked gym I’ve seen thus far, also the gym has a room for massages post workout. The weather was glorious! The night life was epic! The fun had was incredible! I highly HIGHLY recommend this hotel due to all that it offers and it’s right in the center of it all.

Wanted to love this hotel because the pool was genuinely wonderful, but overall the stay felt very overpriced for what we received. The positives: the pool area itself was beautiful and relaxing. The downsides: the rooms felt dated and smelled musty, and the hotel location felt uncomfortable at times. While I understand hotels can’t control the surrounding area, walking out to dinner and seeing people near the entrance screaming and physically fighting was pretty jarring. Service was also disappointing. We ordered lunch at the pool and waited over an hour for a Caesar salad, only to be brought the wrong order (a Cobb salad). We still paid for it despite the long wait and mistake. Housekeeping was another letdown — after the room was serviced, a full trash bag was left sitting on the toilet in the bathroom, linens weren’t re-folded, and items like the shower cap/vanity kit weren’t restocked. Small things, but for the price point, those details matter. Overall, this stay felt expensive for what was delivered. A few improvements in housekeeping, service, and room upkeep would go a long way.

Beautiful, historic hotel with comfortable rooms and nice staff.

As a wedding photographer, the Westgate Hotel is one of my favorite venues in all of San Diego. I've photographed there multiple times, and it never gets old. The architecture alone sets it apart. The French-inspired design throughout the hotel gives every corner a sense of grandeur that you just don't find at most venues. There's no shortage of stunning backdrops to work with: the Versailles Ballroom with its Baccarat crystal chandeliers, the grand lobby staircase with its ornate wrought iron railings, the antique-filled sitting rooms, and more. As a photographer, that variety matters a lot. The getting-ready suites for both the bride and groom are spacious and well-lit with beautiful window light. No cramped, cluttered, or dark corners to work around. The rooms are photogenic on their own. For couples who want that downtown San Diego energy, the rooftop Fountain Terrace is a fantastic option for ceremonies or cocktail hour, with the city skyline as your backdrop. The Versailles Ballroom doubles beautifully as a ceremony space for those who prefer to stay indoors and really lean into the hotel's architecture. Both work incredibly well photographically. The staff has always been helpful and accommodating every time I've been there. You can feel that the whole team takes the experience seriously. If you're planning a wedding in San Diego and want a venue that photographs beautifully from morning prep through the last dance, the Westgate is hard to beat. — Paul from PMC Photography

A hotel that transports you back in time, facilities in very good condition, excellent service, I love going for their brunches and breakfasts

My stay was so horrible, they overcharge people, every time they took an amount from my credit card, my stay was supposed to be 1200 euros, they took 1600 euros because they said that the prices for the rooms increased!!! so it's never like it's in the app, plus the quality of the service was so bad the coffe machine was soooo dirty, i drunk from it the first day without that i knew, no gesture was done about that, i had to ask them to change it, the room smell so old, plus they control the feedback on booking, they keep only the good ones, my reservation was via booking!!! , I couldn't make any feedback on the app, i do it now via Google, and the stuff there are so mean and rude with their fake smiles, one mexican woman working there she wanted to give me a course about how the overcharging work!! because i said that every time they were trying to take money from my account, the rooms are very old rooms, so overhyped for nothing i had to change my stay to another hotel which was Bristol hotel and it was 100 times better, everything so clean, no overcharging, the stuff very nice. it's catastrophic in this Westgate Hotel!! the luxury only outside in the hall, but the rooms themselves and the service is completely the opposite!! it's scaming because they were blindly taking different amount from my account as you see and the screenshots

Professional staff, clean rooms, great french toast. Family event offste so was unable to check out all amenities.

Joe was great!! He had amazing customer service! I would return just to have him take care of my reservation. He was very resourceful and thoughtful.
