The Eden

1 star for deceptive pricing. The hotel hides a "service charge" of $50 a night so they can reduce the sticker price of the room. Unethical with the intention to mislead customers. Some staff actually called it a resort tax that's required by California or LA, which is actually fraudulent since it's a lie. Eden if you're listening - you have a great hotel, now stop with the unethical pricing. Just put what things cost upfront to be as transparent for the customer as possible. No fraudulent invented "resort tax", or shady "service charge", its not about the money, it's just not right. Even if your competition does it, be better.

Everything was perfect about this stay. If I could give service 6 stars I would - Burke was a gentleman. No request was too big and his local recommendations ensured my few days were packed with all the best spots in LA. Would recommend!

I didn't stay at the hotel - I work nearby and go to the Cafe only, just fyi. Also, I don't normally take pix of food and bev, but omg the Rose Garden Matcha was just SO beautiful -- and so delicious! I've had their regular coffee/latte before and it's also fantastic, as is the chocolate croissant. And the staff has been genuinely friendly and kind and fun every time I've gone in. The space itself is comfy and well-designed, and you can't beat that beachfront location! 10/10 Recommend!

Why the photos don’t tell the full story – and what makes the 2025-opened The Eden so distinctive: We arrived at The Eden as a family of four, curious about its promise of independent, design-led hospitality in the historic 1939 Shangri-La building. The images suggest understated luxury – and set expectations accordingly. First impressions are mixed. The lobby and pool area deliver on that promise, but the overall experience feels unconventional and, at times, almost confusing. The rooms lean toward an aesthetic and functionality that feels a little out-dated. And yet, after the first night, something shifts. The atmosphere grows on you, and the space begins to feel genuinely cozy and charming. Part of this unconventional experience is the integration of an in-room kitchen (in some rooms) and a shared terrace (for all sixth-floor rooms). At first, this creates a sense of ambiguity about what the hotel wants to be. But paradoxically, these are also features we ended up enjoying – adding a sense of informality and lived-in comfort. Still, the experience remains uneven. Food options are limited to a small café-style offering. Branding it as a “coffee manufactury” does not make it more than that, even though both coffee and food are good. Room service was unreliable on our first day, and small but important details are overlooked, such as having only two chairs in a room for four guests (Come on, The Eden!). The rooftop bar opens only on weekends. But! What truly stands out is the staff. Every shortcoming and special request was met with warmth, genuine care, and a clear willingness to make things right and quickly. There is a strong sense of being treated as a guest rather than a room number – and that human touch carries real weight. The Eden presents itself as a boutique hotel, but the label does not fully capture it. It feels more like a slightly eccentric but likable older relative: charming, cosy, imperfect, and a little unpredictable. And then there is the price. At our around 800 USD per night including all kinds of surprising fees, taxes, and valet parking, expectations are inevitably high – and not consistently met. And yet, what stays with us are the beautifully designed pool area with its pleasantly warm water, the outstanding sunset views, and above all, the team. The Eden may not deliver a flawless luxury experience, but it leaves a lasting impression. Thanks and goodbye, The Eden – we won’t forget you anytime soon.

I had the best Saturday through resort pass at the pool. Amazing chill setting with kind and helpful staff, delicious cocktails and food, with great live music. Big shout out to Jeremy, Jessy and Adis for making our day so magical. Appreciate you gentlemen!!

Fun little historic hotel on Ocean drive in Santa Monica. Short stroll to beach, pier, shopping, restaurants, good location. Remodeled bathrooms, great ocean views from my room. Rooftop deck and bar is awesome. Biggest draw—great customer service, feels like they made a conscious decision to “wow” each patron.

An amazing hotel! I came for a Valentine day surprise for my wife. Burke a member of the staff was incredibly accommodating and helped me surprise her perfectly. The view was breathtaking and the r of the hotel is so enchanting. Truly a one of kind experience and my favorite stay in LA! Thank you to all the staff you have created a magic place.

We arrived later in the evening and were immediately welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness. Aidan, the night manager, was truly exceptional. He helped us with our bags, was friendly, calm, and made us feel at ease right away after a long day of travel. What really stood out was his thoughtfulness and professionalism. Our room is on the smaller side, and traveling with a dog can sometimes make simple things like dinner a little challenging. Aidan handled everything with grace and understanding, which allowed us to relax and enjoy the evening. That small moment of care completely changed our perspective and gave us a deeper appreciation for the hotel. It’s clear that this property — formerly the Shangri-La — continues to uphold a high standard of hospitality through the people who run it. Experiences like this are what make a stay memorable. We’re very grateful for the warm welcome and outstanding service.
