Hamams & Saunas in Antalya: The Honest Version

Let's be straight with you up front: Antalya does not have a dedicated gay sauna. There is no Antalya equivalent of Istanbul's Aquarius or Cihangir — no 24/7 male-only bathhouse, no cruisey hamam that locals will vouch for. Any website telling you otherwise is copying a template. If a proper gay bathhouse is what you're after in Turkey, that's an Istanbul trip, not an Antalya one.

What Antalya does have is a small, discreet, app-driven scene, a couple of genuine gay bars, and some beautiful historic Turkish baths that are worth doing for the culture — as long as you go in with the right expectations. Here's how it actually works.

⚠️ Safety first — the Turkey rules still apply

Antalya is a relaxed Mediterranean resort city, but it sits in a socially conservative country, and the law and etiquette are the same as everywhere else in Turkey.

• It's legal, but there are no protections. Homosexuality has never been criminalized under the Turkish Republic, but there is no partnership recognition, Pride marches are banned, and police can lean on "public morals" when they choose to. Keep a low profile.
• No public displays of affection. Resort town or not, hold hands in the wrong street and you'll draw attention. What's fine inside a venue is not fine on the promenade.
• Carry ID and pick your own venue. The bar-bill scam that works on tourists across Turkey — a friendly stranger steers you to "his" bar, then a four-figure bill arrives with large men at the door — operates around Antalya's nightlife streets too. You choose where you go, always.

The apps situation (read before you land)

In Antalya, the apps are the scene. Sort them out before you arrive.

• Grindr is blocked in Turkey and has been since 2013. It will not work on Turkish networks without a VPN.
• Hornet is the app that works. After a 2024 court ruling it returned to Turkish app stores and is the most-used app among Turkish gay men — install it before you travel.
• VPNs are unreliable. Turkey periodically blocks the major VPN apps too, so if you want Grindr, install and test your VPN at home — don't count on setting one up from your hotel.

The heritage hamams — go for the culture, not the cruise

Antalya's old town, Kaleiçi, and the newer districts have some lovely traditional Turkish baths. None of them are gay venues. Treat them as what they are — a centuries-old bathing ritual with a scrub and a foam massage — and you'll have a great time. Walk in expecting cruising and you'll have a bad one, possibly involving the police or a robbery. This is the single most important thing to understand about hamams in Antalya.

• Sefa Hamam — a roughly 600-year-old historic bath in the heart of Kaleiçi. Tourist- and couples-oriented, well run, the classic Antalya hamam experience.
• Demirhan Hamam — a long-running bath in the newer part of the city, advertised as traditional and family-friendly.

A few gay directories list neighborhood hamams in Antalya as "discreet" cruising spots. We've deliberately left those names out: none of it holds up to verification, the claims trace back to copy-paste listing sites, and steering you toward a random local hamam expecting action is exactly how people get hurt in this country. If you want the bathhouse experience with actual gay company, do it in Istanbul.

Where the scene actually is: two bars

Antalya's visible gay nightlife comes down to two verified venues, both in the Muratpaşa district near the marina and the old town.

• Club Pose — an LGBT-run nightclub off the "Barlar Sokağı" (bar street) area near Cumhuriyet Meydanı. Typically open late on weekend nights. This is the anchor of the Antalya scene.
• Kamyon Disco Night Club — an LGBT nightclub (the name means "Truck Disco") on Atatürk Caddesi in Muratpaşa. The second reliable option for a night out.

Between them, a Hornet account, and a hamam done for the culture, you have the real Antalya. It's modest, but it's honest — and it beats chasing a gay sauna that isn't there.
