Atlanta's Gay Scene

Midtown Atlanta is the gay neighbourhood — Peachtree Street, 10th Street, and the blocks around Piedmont Park. Key venues include Blakes on the Park (the neighbourhood bar), Jungle (large club), The Heretic (leather and cruise bar), and Blake's. Atlanta Pride is in October (originally October to commemorate the 1969 riots) and is one of the largest in the South, centred on Midtown and Piedmont Park.

Context note: Atlanta is notably LGBTQ+-friendly relative to the rest of Georgia, which has limited legal protections. The city has strong community infrastructure and Pride is a major civic event. Outside Atlanta, the state is significantly more conservative.
