Hong Kong has a small but genuinely reliable cluster of gay saunas - legal, discreet and open year-round, spread across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. They range from a decades-old international institution to sleeker, younger local spots. Entry is typically HK$130-150.

Which one to pick

    • CE Sauna (Central Escalator) - the best-known, running in Central since 1991. Small and dated but famously friendly, with the most international mix (older expats, locals and visitors). Handy if you're staying near Central/LKF. The dry sauna and steam room have at times been closed under government rules, but the venue stays open.
    • CHAPS - in North Point, popular with young Chinese professionals. Jacuzzi, video room, lounge and patio; around HK$138.
    • Gateway (ABC) - the largest of the group, recently renovated, in Wan Chai. A good late-night option with wet and dry areas.
    • HuTong Club - over in Mong Kok on the Kowloon side, open 24 hours and skewing younger.

Peak hours everywhere are roughly 5-9pm on weekdays and mid-afternoon onward at weekends.
