Outside London, Manchester's gay scene is one of the UK's best. Canal Street in the Gay Village is the anchor, and two solid saunas serve the community. The August Pride draws 170,000 people and is one of the biggest LGBTQ+ events in the UK.
Basement Complex (BASE Sauna)
This spot's been going for over 20 years, set in a repurposed Victorian mill basement in Ancoats. It has a dry sauna, a steam room, two jacuzzis, private cabins, and a licensed bar. It's open noon–2am every day. Entry costs £10–15, with midday discounts. During Pride, expect to pay up to £25–30. You'll need Challenge 25 ID. This is Manchester's main sauna.
H2O Sauna
Right in the Gay Village, on Sackville Street, you'll find H2O. It has a Finnish sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, private cabins, a video room, lockers, showers, and a café lounge. It's open daily noon–11pm, and entry is £10–20. If you're staying in the Village, this one's the easiest to get to.
Canal Street & the Gay Village
Canal Street packs more than 40 bars and clubs into a small area, places like Via Manchester, The New Union, AXM, and Cruz 101. The Village is genuinely one of the most visible LGBTQ+ neighborhoods in the UK; the street itself is well-kept. Manchester Piccadilly station is a 10-minute walk, and the Metrolink is even closer.
Manchester Pride
Held over the August bank holiday weekend, Pride draws around 170,000 people and generates over £14 million. It's one of the UK's largest Pride events. The Village gets completely packed, so book your accommodation for this weekend very early.
