The honest summary: Augsburg is a city of about 301,000 people with no gay bar, no gay sauna and no gay district. That's not a gap in our listings; we checked. Queer life here runs on parties, groups and one big day in June. The party is LOVEPOP, a queer club night that has moved around Augsburg's clubs since 2004 and is most often at Rockfabrik. The big day is CSD Augsburg, a Saturday in mid-June ending on Rathausplatz. For a gay bar on a Tuesday, you'd take the train to Munich, about 30 to 45 minutes away.

Where the scene actually is

There isn't a queer street. Older guides, ours included until this update, named a "traditional gay bar" called Die Kneipe and a Café Kitsch; we found no trace of either. Directory sites still list closed places such as Circus on Ludwigstraße, Oki's Bistro and Fegefeuer, and a weekly Friday night called AUGAYSBURG whose Instagram went quiet in April 2021. One gay directory calls Golden Glimmer on Schmiedberg an LGBT meeting place, but the bar says nothing of the kind about itself, so we haven't listed it.

What does exist is spread across the city: the parties rotate between mainstream clubs, the groups meet in rented rooms, and the one adult venue is near the Staatstheater. Augsburg also has no general LGBTQ+ community centre. The closest thing is the youth group's space near Königsplatz.

Going out: LOVEPOP and RosaMontag

LOVEPOP ("Queer - Straight - Whatever") is the queer club night that has held Augsburg together since 2004. It moves between Rockfabrik on Piccardstraße near the university, Kantine, Mo Club, 100hz, Barfly and a rented party tram. Its 22nd-birthday party was at Rockfabrik on 18 July 2026, and lovepop.info lists a party tram plus Rockfabrik on 7 November, Rockfabrik again on 5 December and a Christmas party at Kantine on 25 December 2026. Check the site before you go, because the venue changes.

Once a year, during the summer Plärrer fair, Proud Events runs RosaMontag, a queer evening in one of the beer tents (31 August 2026, free, with an afterparty at Café Filion). In summer the CSD association also runs Queergarten, a queer beer-garden series at Provino.

CSD Augsburg

CSD Augsburg e.V. runs the city's Pride, which it calls the third-largest CSD in Bavaria. It is held on a Saturday in June, not July as older guides said: 8 June 2024 (about 5,000 people by the organisers' count), 14 June 2025 (more than 4,000, under heightened security) and 13 June 2026, motto "Unser Augsburg - Unser Zirkuszelt". The 2025 parade started at Rathausplatz and looped through the old town, past Ulrichsplatz and back along Maximilianstraße, with the street festival on Rathausplatz. No police count has been published. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing; open planning meetings start on 26 November 2026.

IDAHOBITA on 17 May is the other fixed date, with events by the same association.

Community and health

    • Augsburger Aidshilfe e.V. (Ulmer Straße 182): HIV/STI counselling and Checkpoint testing on set evenings, 40 years old in 2026. Its autumn Augsburger Männerwochen include a pub quiz on men's health and queer life.
    • Queerbeet (Halderstraße 23): LGBTIQ youth group for ages 14 to 27, with weekly evenings.
    • Queer Augsburg e.V.: advocacy group behind the "Ask a Queer" living library and queer-history walks.
    • Also active: the university's Queerreferat, Queere Christ*innen Augsburg (qcaux.de), the AWO-run ZAS HIV counselling centre and a DGTI working group for trans and inter people.

    Saunas and cruising

Augsburg has no gay sauna, and we found no record of one in recent years. The public saunas and thermal baths are mainstream. Watch out for FKK Colosseum on Gubener Straße, which Google shows for "sauna" searches: it's a heterosexual sauna club, not a gay venue. The nearest gay saunas are in Munich.

The only venue with a cruising area is Inkognito (Theaterstraße 6), an erotic shop and adult cinema with a cinema area of about 250 m², video cabins and a gay section in the shop. The crowd is mixed and it's 18+. We have not listed any outdoor cruising areas; we found no current source for one.

    Gone, or never there

    • Die Kneipe and Café Kitsch: named in old AI-written guides. We could not confirm either ever existed as gay venues.
    • Crazy Bar (Kapuzinergasse): a mainstream party bar for birthdays and stag nights. It was listed as gay only on sites copying each other.
    • Circus, Oki's Bistro, Fegefeuer, Café-Bar Centro, RedBlack: closed according to the directories that once listed them.
    • AUGAYSBURG Friday night: no activity since 2021.

    Practical tips

    • Getting there: Augsburg has no passenger airport. From Munich Airport (MUC) take the S-Bahn to München-Pasing and change for Augsburg; allow 1h15 to 1h30. Memmingen (FMM) works too: shuttle bus to Memmingen station, then about 1h10 by train.
    • Getting around: trams and buses are free within the City-Zone, nine stops including Hauptbahnhof, Königsplatz, Moritzplatz and Rathausplatz. Rockfabrik is out by the university, so plan a tram or taxi back.
    • Where to stay: there is no gay hotel. The old town is the best base; see our hotel list.
    • Safety: Augsburg is generally relaxed, but in March 2025 a gay couple was attacked on Maximilianstraße late at night, and five men were later charged. Take normal care on the late-night strip.

    A few words in German

    • schwul / lesbisch / queer: gay / lesbian / queer
    • CSD (Christopher Street Day): the German name for Pride
    • Party heute?: Is there a party tonight?
    • Ein Bier, bitte: A beer, please
