Gay Cruising in Madrid: Cruise Bars, Saunas, Parks and What Closed
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and Spanish and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Madrid runs the most complete cruising infrastructure in Spain, in four distinct layers: a real cruise-bar scene in and around Chueca (something Seville and Valencia can only envy), eight saunas topped by the 1,400 m² Paraíso, two sex-shop cabin complexes, and the classic parks — Casa de Campo by day, Parque del Oeste at sunset. Entry runs €3 to €20. The scene also turns over fast, and half the venues in older guides are gone; the closures list below will save you a wasted taxi.
The legal picture, in one paragraph
The friendly Spanish framework, same as everywhere in the country: cruising itself is not a crime, Article 185 of the Penal Code only covers obscene exhibition in front of minors, and licensed sex venues are fully legal. Madrid adds the big-city bonus: nobody looks twice in Chueca, where the scene has run openly since the eighties. Outdoors, the standing convention — after dark or in the deep sections, away from families, worst case you're asked to move along.

The cruise bars: Madrid's specialty
This is the layer most Spanish cities lost and Madrid kept: proper cruise bars where the evening starts social and descends, literally, from there. The cluster sits in and around Chueca, with Calle Pelayo as its spine.
Shower & Bar · Calle Pelayo 25, Chueca
The anchor of the Pelayo corridor: a bar, wet room, darkrooms, private cabins, glory holes, video room and a maze spread over two floors. Dress code runs underwear, jockstrap, swimwear or nothing — street clothes go to the cloakroom at the entrance with a numbered bag. Busiest late on weekends and famously busy Sunday afternoons.

Boyberry · Calle de Valverde 3
The budget classic and the easiest first step: bar, sex shop and cruising area in one, with seven cabins, a small maze and glory holes upstairs and a larger basement play area. The cruising floor costs €3 — the cheapest ticket in European cruising — and you stay dressed unless you decide otherwise. Perfect for testing the water before committing to a full club night.
Strong · Calle de Trujillos 7
The hybrid: 500 m² with a DJ booth, stage and dance floor up front and a huge darkroom behind it, male-only. For the night when you can't decide between dancing and the dark — Strong's answer is you don't have to. One timing warning that applies to this whole section: don't show up to Strong or the darkrooms before 1:30–2:00 a.m. Arriving at 11 p.m., European-style, means having the room to yourself; Madrid's clock simply runs two hours later than yours.

Attack Madrid · Plaza de Tirso de Molina 20
The fetish private club: four zones from bar to chill-out (sling, cage, St Andrew's cross) to wet area, with a dungeon in the basement. Gear expected — leather, rubber, sports. Peaks during Fetish Madrid week in October, when it becomes one of the scene's headquarters.
The Ring Private · Calle Amparo 78, Lavapiés
The full palace, south of the center: 500 m² of slings, mazes, wet area, glory holes, cage and dungeon. Dress code nude, leather, rubber or sportswear — jeans stay in the locker. The most hardcore address on this list, and proud of it.

Naked · Calle Monteleón 5, Malasaña
The leather-and-fetish bar across two floors, dress code naked/underwear/jockstrap every day with theme parties layered on top. Smaller and more sociable than The Ring; a bar first, with benefits.
The saunas: eight doors, every taste
Hours and details on our Madrid sauna pages. At the door everywhere: towel and locker key included, entry €11–20, cards accepted.

Sauna Paraíso · Calle del Norte 15, near Plaza de España
Madrid's largest at 1,400 m² and the one with the youngest crowd: Finnish sauna, Turkish baths, a genuinely large heated pool, jacuzzi, 30 cabins, three darkrooms, group bed, cinema and a BDSM corner. €17 weekdays, €20 weekends — and from Saturday morning it runs 24/7 through the weekend, absorbing the Chueca club exodus at dawn.
Sauna Octopus · Calle Churruca 10, Chueca
The bear house: 1,000 m² for a mature, furry crowd at the gentlest big-sauna price in town (€15–16), with two darkrooms, twenty cabins, a cinema and a proper dungeon. Daily 10 a.m. to midnight.

SaunaBeach · Cuesta de Santo Domingo 1, Centro
The showman: beach-themed bar upstairs, dark rooms, glory holes, XXX cinemas and live shows below, running 24 hours from Thursday through Sunday. Entry swings €5–20 depending on the night's program — check before you go, because the program is the point.
Sauna Lavapiés · Calle Zurita 3
The underground cave — literally, the wet area sits in a vaulted brick basement — open daily from 2 p.m. to 6 a.m., €11–18 by day of week, with the most mixed crowd in the city. The right address when everything north of Gran Vía feels too polished.

The rest of the map
- Sauna Center (Calle de Valverde 32 — it moved from Cuesta de Santo Domingo, which is now SaunaBeach) — the volume play: over 1,000 m² and a hundred cabins near Gran Vía.
- Sauna Príncipe (Travesía de las Beatas 3) — dark labyrinths for a mature crowd.
- Puerta de Toledo (Cuesta de las Descargas 6) — holds the south with a sling, a darkroom and an older, loyal clientele; afternoons only (2–11 p.m.).
- Cards work everywhere, including the cruise bars; keep a few coins for cloakroom tips.
- Dress codes are real at Shower & Bar, Naked and The Ring — underwear or less — and relaxed everywhere else. Every venue has a cloakroom with numbered bags; your clothes are safe, it's the system.
- Condoms and lube are provided at all licensed venues.
- PEP is free through Spain's public health system: any hospital ER (urgencias) within 72 hours, and Madrid's Centro Sanitario Sandoval in Chueca is the specialist sexual-health clinic — walk-in, visitor-friendly, and the community's address for decades.
- Getting around: the metro runs until 1:30 a.m. and Chueca station exits into the middle of everything; after closing it's a cheap taxi or Uber/Cabify. The scene's two poles — Chueca in the center, the harder venues around Lavapiés (The Ring, Sauna Lavapiés) — are one short metro hop apart (lines 1 or 3 via Sol) or a 20-minute walk, though the walk back climbs: Lavapiés sits downhill, and at 4 a.m. the slope votes for the taxi. Madrid is walkable and safe at night by any big-city standard — ordinary pickpocket awareness is all it asks.
The sex-shop cabins: the afternoon layer
Between the bars and the saunas sits the cabinas tradition: Erotic Palace (Calle del Desengaño 12, behind Gran Vía) with private cabins and cruising cubicles, and the bigger Sexyland (Paseo de las Delicias 25, rated 4.5 from nearly 200 reviews) with social and cruising floors. Open through the day — the lunch-break option when the saunas feel like commitment.

Outdoors: the two parks, honestly
Casa de Campo is Europe's largest urban park and its cruising history is as old as the park: activity concentrates in the wooded areas near the Lago, daytime to early evening. Know the context: parts of the park also host street sex work, mostly along the roads — the gay cruising zones by the lake are a separate geography, and locals keep to them. Parque del Oeste is the elegant alternative: terraced paths below the Templo de Debod, sunset onward, with the best view any cruising spot in this series can offer. Both are vast public parks used by everyone; the full discretion rules apply — awareness, distance from families, nothing valuable in your pockets, and an offline map for the walk out.
Closed, so you don't waste the taxi
Recently closed — ignore older guides on these: Leather Club (Pelayo 42) · Organic (Pelayo 30) · The Cage (San Bartolomé 4) · Club Baco (Olmo 31) · The Meat Rack (Montserrat 30) · the Odarko party line · saunas Adán (San Bernardo 38) and Gran Vía (Barco 6). We'll restore any that reopen — tell us if you see shutters up.

The apps and the local reality
Grindr density in Chueca is among the highest in Europe, with Scruff strong in the bear and fetish crowds. Locals use the apps as a bridge to the venues rather than a replacement — "Shower?" with a time is a complete Madrid sentence. Wordlist for the chat: activo, pasivo, versátil, condón — and "¿local?", which asks whether either of you can host.
How a Madrid night unfolds
Madrid runs on the latest clock in Europe, and fighting it is futile. Terraces and dinner in Chueca from 10 p.m. — Baranoa or Gris for the warm-up, Why Not when the singing starts (the full map of 66 bars is on our Madrid bars page). The cruise bars take over after midnight, Shower & Bar and Boyberry first; Strong carries the dancing-and-dark shift to closing; and Paraíso's weekend 24/7 mode catches whoever dawn delivers. And then the city's best-kept secret, the Sunday vermut-to-cruising pipeline: after tapas and vermut in Chueca or La Latina around 4 p.m., the crowd moves straight to Shower & Bar or Sauna Paraíso for what locals will tell you is the peak session of the week.
The circuit and the calendar
The first week of July is MADO — Madrid Pride, up to a million and a half people and the biggest Pride in Europe, when Chueca becomes a single open-air venue and every address in this guide runs at capacity for six days. Plan accordingly: book your hotel four to six months ahead — rates triple and Chueca sells out entirely. October brings Fetish Madrid, 15,000 men in gear and the cruise bars' hardest week of the year. Between the two, the city needs no excuse; even a random Tuesday here outdraws most cities' Saturdays.

Frequently asked questions
Is cruising legal in Madrid?
Cruising itself is not a crime in Spain; only obscene exhibition in front of minors is. Licensed cruise bars, clubs and saunas are fully legal — and Madrid has more of them than any city in the country.
What's the best gay cruise bar in Madrid?
Shower & Bar on Calle Pelayo is Chueca's anchor — two floors of darkrooms, cabins and a wet room, underwear or less. Boyberry is the budget classic at €3, Strong the dance-and-darkroom hybrid, and The Ring the full fetish palace in Lavapiés.
What's the best gay sauna in Madrid?
Sauna Paraíso — 1,400 square meters, the largest in Madrid, with a heated pool, 30 cabins and three darkrooms, running 24/7 on weekends with a young crowd. Octopus is the bear alternative, SaunaBeach the late-night show venue.
Is Casa de Campo still an active cruising spot?
Yes — the wooded areas near the Lago stay active from daytime to early evening, and Parque del Oeste's terraces by the Templo de Debod take over at sunset. Both are enormous public parks: discretion rules apply in full.
When is the best time to visit gay Madrid?
The first week of July for MADO, Madrid Pride — up to 1.5 million people and Europe's biggest Pride — or October for Fetish Madrid week, when the cruise bars run their hardest program of the year. Sunday afternoon sessions are a Madrid institution year-round.
