Bar Buka

Bar Buka opened on the Albert Cuypstraat in 2019 and filled a gap the city had carried for years: a dedicated lesbian bar. It bills itself simply as the number one lesbian bar of Amsterdam, and the room backs the claim — queer women at the core, everyone welcome, cocktails taken seriously. Programming keeps it busy through the week: quiz nights, DJ sets, open-mic evenings and watch parties for anything sapphic on television. On market days the terrace doubles as prime people-watching over the Albert Cuyp stalls. With Saarein in the Jordaan as the historic elder, Buka is the younger, louder sister — between the two of them the city finally has a small but real lesbian circuit again.
