Only a few minutes walk from the Ottawa parliament buildings, this park, with mature shrubs and some superb trees and trimmed lawns is well worth the time spent there.
The location of this park in the heart of downtown Ottawa provides a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the nation’s capital. There are paved walking/biking paths throughout and both sunny and shaded areas for relaxation. A number of monuments can be found within the park, along with views of Parliament Hill, the Chateau Laurier, Rideau Canal and other landmarks. If you’re hungry, grab a table at Tavern on the Hill. It’s a very well- manicured, beautiful park that is well worth a visit.
Worth slowing down to enjoy. Beautiful tulip beds there too as we were here for the incredible and moving Tulip Festival.
If you're looking for a lovely escape in downtown Ottawa, Major Hill’s Park is the perfect spot! It offers breathtaking views of the Rideau Canal, Parliament Hill, and the beautiful Gatineau Hills. Tucked right behind the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, it’s such a joy to stroll along the winding paths and soak in the refreshing nature around you. A true gem in the heart of the city!
A great area to walk around in. It has it all grass for sitting on, views to one side of Notre Dame and to the front Parliament Hill with the canal and river on between. There are a number of statues dotted around. Well worth 30 minutes
The park is a calm oasis in downtown Ottawa and the perfect spot to take a break. This park features some of the best lookouts in the City, offering stunning views like on the Rideau Canal, the Ottawa River and the Parliament Buildings. Take a stroll through the park's stately trees, over its rolling lawns and winding pathways and learn about its history trhough a series of interpretation panels.
Beautiful park, ideal for seeking rest and tranquility surrounded by greenery and many well-kept flowers! Within walking distance from the center.
During Tulip Festival in eary May, the park has 2 main areas of tulip displays - one at each end/entrance. Surrounding the statue of Colonel By, located close to the Laurier Hotel, is a small bed of tulips while more tulip beds are at the other end of the park, across from the National Art Gallery. However, to see a major display of tulips, one must go to Dow's Lake Park. Once in Major Hill Park, we enjoyed the walk along the Rideau Canal as it exits into the Ottawa River. A boat cruise was leaving so it was interesting to watch the sailors turn levers to open and close the lock doors as the boat was travelling through the canal. The path exits along the side of the Laurier Hotel onto Wellington Street making it a short-cut to get to the Parliament Hill walk to see the PM statues behind those government buildings or to cross that street to examine/photograph the huge War Memorial. The signs in the park explained the history behind the park - why it was called such an unusual name - and showed diagrams and the purpose of the Rideau canal that Colonel By built. The imposing American Embassy is opposite this park.
Located around many important attractions to visit. Very large area with wooden benches that also invites you to sit in the garden, either outdoors or under a leafy tree. Spectacular view due to the color changes of its shades on the leafy trunks as well as the gradual fall of leaves on them. Ideal for a picnic, playing with children, pets, or tasting a delicious snack or dessert from the region accompanied by a good coffee. Excellent also to enjoy this city having a time of calm, being a special experience.
Always lush in the summer and well-kept in the winter, a beautiful place to gather surrounded by the Chateau Laurier, the Peace Tower, the National Art Gallery, the Basilica. People are walking or reading, picnics, playing games, walking the dog.
The roads are bad around this place considering it’s the capital of Canada it could surely be better
Fast becoming a favourite loop walk starting from Byward market. Spectacular views. Time this with sunset and you have the makings of a very romantic evening.
