A modern and spacious place with delicious Southern flavors and an incredibly welcoming ambience. The beignet was warm and irresistibly fluffy, while the shrimp and grits were flavorful with a nice Cajun and garlic kick. For dessert, both the peanut butter cheesecake and the chocolate cookie were so yum. A lovely spot for enjoying Southern bites and either hanging out or getting some work done!
Order at the front and get seated. Not super busy and good interior seating. Food came out fast. Quantity is okay, but food all tasted good.
Went for weekend brunch and was able to get seated fairly quickly. It had a comfy/farmhouse/communal vibe with the tables placed pretty closely together. There’s a high top narrow island with seating as well. There’s noise level was pretty high but not so noisy to where you couldn’t hear your party. My cousin and I went with the shrimp and grits and shared an order of beignets. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal and a nice portion. 10/10. The beignets were a 8/10 just because I visited New Orleans earlier this year and had the ones from Cafe Beignet which I enjoyed so much more. The beignets here are still soft and pillowy and I would likely order again. I saw on the menu that they have fried green tomatoes as part of a specific dish but I really wish they offered them as a side. I haven’t had fried green tomatoes in forever and I just know they would’ve paired nicely with the grits. I hope the chef/owner sees this review and consider making it a possibility! All in all, we have already said that we’ll be back so I’m looking forward to my next visit.
We were looking for a quick and delicious breakfast place following an early U of Chicago appointment. This place was an easy 10 min walk from the hospital. It was pretty quiet for a Friday morning. Kind of a hybrid of ordering at the register / getting your own water, napkins, etc. with modified table service. I ordered the fried green tomato tartine. Imagine a thick buttery toasted slice, covered with pimento cheese then topped with a lightly breaded tomato, thick applewood smoked bacon and a fried egg? Yeah. I had planed on stealing some of my husband's grits but I ate every last morsel and was just too full. I will be there again since hospital visits are going to be a thing for a while. It's good to know this kind of comfort food is going to be serving it up all day. FYI: the espresso lack the punch I typically am looking for.
Roux is an excellent spot for brunch. Among others, we ordered Beignets, a tart, The Classic, and the Chicken Fried Steak. All of these tasted fresh and savory especially the green beans that came with the chicken fried steak. Roux is now officially my go to brunch spot for that area. Will be back!
