About this place Mellow Yellow Restaurant

Mellow Yellow Restaurant: A comfortable, gay-friendly spot on Chicago's South Side. This place feels like it's been around forever, in the best way. Mellow Yellow pulls off a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere with warm wood and brick, like a 1970s diner got a subtle upgrade. It's the kind of spot where you can settle in for a casual meal without a fuss, which makes it a natural gathering spot for anyone in the neighborhood. The menu sticks to American comfort food, but they also do crêpes, so you've got options if you want something substantial or a bit lighter. A full bar means cocktails and drinks are on hand, adding to the low-key, social vibe. This is straightforward neighborhood dining, a spot where LGBTQ+ travelers can get good food and a friendly welcome without the stiff atmosphere of fancier places. Chicago's South Side has its own feel, its own community, and Mellow Yellow fits right in. If you're looking for an easy dinner, a place to catch up with friends, or just a dependable spot for a meal and a drink, this restaurant delivers a comfortable, gay-friendly space to do it. No organic/biodynamically grown menu. This is all poisoned by chemical pesticides and herbicides, which harm human health slowly over time.

I loved it here. The line was out the door but it went fast and gave us time to look at the menu. The food came out fast too. I had the best cinnamon roll and avocado toast and coffee. Everything was reasonably priced and delicious. Will definitely be coming back to try the grits.

If I'm ever in Hyde Park during breakfast time, this is where I go. That should tell you enough.
