About this place Kanela Breakfast Club

Kanela Breakfast Club, on North Wells Street, is a gay-friendly spot in Old Town that puts a Greek spin on breakfast and lunch. You'll find chandeliers and exposed brick inside, which sounds like every other restaurant until you actually sit down. It feels put together, not just thrown up. The menu leans Mediterranean, but the core is solid breakfast and lunch. Think eggs, pancakes, sandwiches—the usual, but with a bit more flavor than you might expect. Chicago has plenty of places to eat, especially if you're looking for LGBTQ+ friendly spots. This one keeps it simple: good food, served in a place that feels good to be in. They also talk a lot about sustainability, which is a nice bonus if that's something you care about. It's right in Old Town, so it's easy to get to if you're staying nearby or just passing through. Check kanelabreakfastclub.com for hours and what's on the menu today.

We had strawberry orange mimosas that were amazing, as well as a house made bagel with fresh chive cream cheese which was PHENOMENAL and my mom said her fried egg sandwich was the best she’d ever had!! And that’s saying something. GREAT experience!!

The menu is bold, portions are good, but flavors fall short. No simple offerings on this menu like just eggs & bacon or just traditional, French Toast, Eggs Benedict, etc. Everything has a twist but not all in a good way. Not the cleanest dining area, the windows are LONG past their Spring cleaning creating a dingy feeling, service is on the slower side (which is okay for some). No kids menu offered.

Food was great, would come back. Beverages were terrible. My french press coffee tasted like Nescafé.

I walked in and ordered a matcha latte. It tastes like water and a little bit of milk. Slight taste of matcha, not sweetness and no coffee or whatsoever. I don’t know why it is called a matcha latte? ? And it’s $7 +
