Gay Cruising in Belo Horizonte: The Honest 2026 Guide

Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change

Ask any Brazilian about mineiros, the people of Minas Gerais, and you'll hear the same thing: the warmest, calmest, most hospitable people in the country, a little shy at first and then impossible to leave. Belo Horizonte doesn't wave its gay scene around the way Rio or São Paulo do. But behind the closed doors of the saunas on Rua dos Timbiras you'll find exactly that mineiro warmth: relaxed, unpretentious, no attitude. Almost all of BH's cruising happens indoors, in a cluster of saunas a few blocks south of Praça Raul Soares, a São Paulo-style cruise bar in Lourdes and an old-school cinema-sauna in Centro. There's more choice here than in most Brazilian cities outside São Paulo and Rio, prices are fair, and the crowd is famously friendly once the ice breaks. Here's where to go.

Legal in one line: Brazil has had marriage equality since 2013, and homophobia has been punishable as a crime of racism since 2019. Sex in a public place is a different matter: ato obsceno (Article 233 of the Penal Code) can bring three months to a year in prison or a fine. That's why this guide sends you indoors.

The Timbiras sauna strip (Lourdes and Santo Agostinho)

The area south of Praça Raul Soares, down to Avenida Álvares Cabral, has the biggest concentration of saunas in the city, with three of them on the same street, Rua dos Timbiras. It's a well-off residential district, but take an Uber or 99 at night rather than walking between venues.

Sauna Olimpo · Rua dos Timbiras 2635, Santo Agostinho

The most polished sauna in BH, in a restored mansion: dry sauna and steam room, lockers, private cabins, a dark room, a porn room, a bar, a smoking area and a show space with a resident DJ and drag shows. It's for men only, and you go through a metal detector at the door. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 15:00, with longer hours at weekends. A visitor in August 2026 paid R$60 standard entry and R$20 on a zodiac-sign promotion night (Thursdays and Sundays); water is R$8 and a locker fee applies.

Know the house: in Brazil, garotos de programa (male escorts) working in saunas are a normal, accepted part of the culture, not something hidden, and Olimpo has them, from about R$150. To avoid awkward moments, the house uses a towel colour code: clients wear one colour and the garotos another. The colours vary from house to house, and staff explain them at the entrance, so ask if they don't. If someone offers and you're not interested, a smile and a friendly "não, obrigado" settles it, with classic Brazilian courtesy on both sides.

Sauna Très Chic · Rua dos Timbiras 2052, Lourdes

The traditional choice, with a reputation for impeccable cleanliness: dry and steam saunas, communal showers, lots of cabins, a dark room, a bar and a snack bar, over several floors. Open daily, about 14:00–22:00, which regulars wish ran later. Entry was about R$50 in 2026. The crowd skews 50+, the coroas (silver foxes) who've been coming for years, and the soundtrack upstairs leans to old pagode and sertanejo, drifting through the warm fog of the steam room; reviews mention the occasional brusque receptionist. Website: saunatreschicbh.com.br, phone (31) 3226-7896.

Sauna 1097 · Rua dos Guajajaras 1097

A long-running, no-frills two-floor sauna one street over, known for go-go boys on busy nights and a younger, active crowd. Entry is around R$50; listings give roughly 15:00–22:00, closed Tuesdays. It's built around garotos, and some visitors report staff pushing paid services, a dated interior and the odd intoxicated guest. Regulars sum it up as a place for quick encounters; if you want comfort, go to Olimpo or Très Chic.

Cruise club: Dédalos Bar BH

Dédalos Bar BH · Rua São Paulo 1735, Lourdes

The Belo Horizonte branch of São Paulo's famous Dédalos: a cruise bar of about 180 m² with a bar and lounge up front and a labyrinth of cabins, a dark room and glory holes behind, open late (and reported as 24 hours). It's spotless and has some of the best reviews in the city, though several 2026 visitors complain about rude treatment at the door on certain shifts. Check dedalosbar.com.br for theme nights and prices before you go.

Centro: Kratos and the cinemas

Kratos Cine Sauna · Rua da Bahia 652, Centro

Running since 2011, and now listed at Rua da Bahia in what 2026 reviewers call a bigger, new space (older listings still give Rua dos Tamoios 6, so confirm the address): an adult cinema and bar with a stage on the ground floor, and dry and steam saunas with roomy cabins upstairs. It's cheap, about R$20 for the cinema and R$35 for the sauna, and runs 24 hours on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (other days about 08:30–22:00). Expect bingo on Tuesdays, a DJ and drag queen on Saturdays, and a bisexual night on Wednesdays, when women get in free, so it's mixed that night. Reviews in 2026 are split: some praise the cleaner new space, others mention renovation work while open and the occasional rough crowd. Call (31) 3309-0260 to check.

Old-school cinemas and cabins. Centro still has a few porn cinemas and sex shops with cabins, popular with a mature, discreet crowd: Cine Las Vegas (Rua Padre Belchior 260, with gay and straight screens), the cabins and dark room at Sex Shop Sigilus (Rua Espírito Santo 845, 3rd floor) and the tiny cineminha on the 2nd floor of the Edifício Central (Av. dos Andradas 367), with entry from about R$5. They're cheap and basic.

Centro after dark: the streets around Kratos and the old cinemas are genuinely risky at night. Visit the cinemas by day only, with little cash. For Kratos at night, arrive and leave only by Uber or 99, door to door: order from inside, and step out when the car is at the door.

Check before you go: some saunas in older listings, including Yes 24 Horas (Rua dos Timbiras, listed at both no. 2253 and no. 2523), Sauna Specific (Av. Álvares Cabral 950), Sauna BH (Av. Augusto de Lima 444) and a BH branch of 269 Chilli Pepper, couldn't be confirmed as currently operating from recent sources. Call or check social media first.

Why there's no outdoor list

GayOut doesn't send you to parks or public restrooms in BH, on purpose. The Parque Municipal in Centro, the bus station, the markets and several shopping-mall toilets all have a reputation on cruising websites, but sex in a public place is a crime in Brazil, the park and malls have security guards and cameras, and robbery after hookups is a real risk in Centro. With five indoor venues to choose from, it isn't worth it.

Practical tips

    • Getting around: use Uber or 99 door to door, especially at night in Centro. Order the car from inside the venue and step out when it arrives.
    • Paying: most venues take cards. Pix, Brazil's instant payment, is everywhere, but it needs a Brazilian bank account and CPF number, so carry a card and some cash in small notes.
    • Locker and phone: leave valuables at the hotel; lock your phone in the locker, not the cabin.
    • Apps: Hornet is huge in Brazil and in Minas, often more popular with locals than Grindr, so install both. Meet in a bar first, and be wary of anyone who rushes to change venue or asks for a Pix.
    • Before and after: the social side of gay BH is in Savassi and neighbouring Funcionários, just east of Lourdes: pre-drink at John John, with its big street terrace, or at Espaço LOC in Savassi, or sing karaoke at the long-running Bar da Cácia in Centro. See all BH gay bars.

The boteco ritual

Belo Horizonte calls itself Brazil's capital of bars, and locals have a saying for it: "Não tem mar, vamos pro bar" ("No sea? Then let's go to the bar"). Do as they do. Before Dédalos or Olimpo, take a plastic table on the pavement at a neighbourhood boteco in Lourdes or Savassi, order a cerveja bem gelada (served so cold the bottle frosts), and a basket of pão de queijo, the golden cheese bread that comes out of the oven too hot to hold. After the sauna, you'll want exactly the same again.

Pride, health and local flavour

Pride: the Parada do Orgulho LGBT of Belo Horizonte is held in July. The 27th edition was on Sunday 19 July 2026, under the theme "Democracy: our vote, our lives", gathering from 13:30 at Avenida Brasil and Afonso Pena and ending at Praça Sete around 21:00, with six trios elétricos. It's organised by Cellos-MG, and the saunas run their busiest weekend of the year.

Health: Brazil's public health system, the SUS, offers free HIV testing, PrEP and PEP. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to a public UPA emergency unit or a hospital emergency room and ask for PEP.

Mineiro words worth knowing: uai (the all-purpose Minas exclamation: "well", "huh", "of course"), trem (literally "train", but in Minas it means "thing", any thing), sô (mate, from senhor), pegação (cruising), bofe (a hot guy), and garoto de programa (escort). And after the sauna, do as the locals do: pão de queijo and a cold beer or a shot of Minas cachaça in a corner boteco.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best gay sauna in Belo Horizonte?

Sauna Olimpo, in a restored mansion at Rua dos Timbiras 2635 in Santo Agostinho, is the most polished: dry and steam saunas, a bar, dark room, DJ and drag shows, open Wednesday to Sunday from 15:00. Très Chic, at Rua dos Timbiras 2052 in Lourdes, is the clean, traditional choice with an older crowd. Both are a few blocks apart on the city's sauna strip.

Is there a gay cruise club in Belo Horizonte?

Yes. Dédalos Bar BH, at Rua São Paulo 1735 in Lourdes, is a branch of the São Paulo cruise bar: a bar, lounge and labyrinth of cabins with a dark room and glory holes, open late. In Centro, Kratos Cine Sauna at Rua da Bahia 652 combines an adult cinema, cabins and a sauna, and runs 24 hours on some nights.

How much does a gay sauna cost in Belo Horizonte?

Recent visitors report about R$50 at Très Chic and Sauna 1097 and about R$60 at Olimpo, with Olimpo running R$20 promotions on some Thursdays and Sundays. Kratos is cheaper, around R$20 for the cinema and R$35 for the sauna. Massages and drinks are extra, and many places charge a locker fee.

Is outdoor cruising safe in Belo Horizonte?

GayOut doesn't recommend it. Parks, mall restrooms and bus-station toilets do have a reputation, but sex in a public place is a crime in Brazil (ato obsceno), security guards patrol, and robbery is a real risk. Belo Horizonte has enough saunas and cruise bars that there's no reason to take the chance.

When is Belo Horizonte Pride?
