Belo Horizonte — BH to locals — is the capital of Minas Gerais and the heart of Brazil's third-largest metropolitan area. Espaço LOC, in Savassi, is a central club connected to the Clube Church operators. Bar da Cácia, in Centro, is a beloved gay karaoke bar running since 1993. GRUTA!, in Horto, is a queer arts and party space, and Estação Gueto, in Barro Preto, adds to the alternative scene. Yanã Espaço Cultural, in Floresta, is a lesbian and feminist cultural space.

Saunas

BH has a real cluster of men's saunas, most of them downtown: Sauna 1097 (Rua dos Guajajaras 1097, Centro), also known as Hot House; Sauna Très Chic (Rua dos Timbiras 2052, Lourdes); Sauna Olimpo (Rua dos Timbiras 2635, Santo Agostinho); and Sauna Kratos (Rua Bahia 652, Centro).

Cruising

Parque Municipal Américo Renné Giannetti, the large downtown park in Centro, is a historic daytime cruising spot. Brazil is broadly LGBTQ-legal, but public sexual conduct can fall under "ato obsceno" (Article 233) rules, so discretion is sensible.

Pride and Events

The Parada do Orgulho LGBTQIAPN+ de Belo Horizonte is held on the third Sunday of July, taking over Avenida Afonso Pena in Centro from near Avenida Brasil toward Praça Sete and Praça da Estação. Organized by CELLOS-MG and drawing around 360,000 people, it is the biggest Pride in Minas Gerais and among the largest in Brazil; a cultural day in the Parque Municipal usually precedes the Sunday march. Getting Around

BH has a single metro line plus extensive buses; the metro is handy for the center, but Uber and 99 are the most convenient for night travel between Centro, Savassi and Funcionários. Savassi is very walkable in the evening.

BH is famous across Brazil for its food and boteco (bar) culture — pão de queijo, feijão tropeiro and a deep coffee scene, especially in Savassi and Funcionários.
