Parada da Diversidade de Curitiba
About This Event
Curitiba's Parada da Diversidade LGBTI+ is often cited as one of Brazil's first Pride parades. It traces back to a gay parade on 31 January 1995, held when the national LGBT association ABGLT was founded. Since 2005 it has been organised by APPAD, the Associação Paranaense da Parada da Diversidade. A separate Marcha pela Diversidade, run by Grupo Dignidade, takes place around June.
It is a free daytime event in the city centre, part protest and part party, with a sound stage. The date is not fixed. In November 2022 the parade was cut short when a DJ died after falling from a sound truck. In 2023 it was held on 10 December, and City Hall fined the organisers for a missing licence. In 2025 and 2026 it took place in late September. Local politics keep coming up: in 2023 a city councillor proposed banning minors from LGBT events.
The 25th edition took place on Sunday 27 September 2026 at Praça Santos Andrade, one week before the first round of Brazil's general election. Its slogan was "Das ruas às urnas: LGBTQIAPN+ pela democracia" (From the streets to the ballot box). We couldn't find a crowd figure for it. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
