Orgulho LGBT+ da Bahia (Salvador Pride)
About This Event
The Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ da Bahia, Salvador's pride parade, is organized by Grupo Gay da Bahia, which was founded in 1980 by anthropologist Luiz Mott. Mott's group is perhaps best known for its annual count of violent deaths of LGBT people in Brazil.
It's a lot like Carnival: trios elétricos carrying singers, DJs, and activist groups make their way along the Barra to Ondina seafront circuit - the same route used in February. This year, the crowd will gather from midday at the Farol da Barra, and the trios will leave around 3pm. Staying in Barra means you can walk to the parade.
The parade coincides with the 7 September Independence Day holiday, turning it into a long weekend for many visitors.
Keep your phone out of sight in the crowd - it's a good rule for any street party in Salvador.
The 23rd edition, held on Sunday 6 September 2026, had 13 trios and a theme of "Vergonha adoece. Orgulho cura!" (shame sickens, pride heals). There was also a stage honoring Mott, who turned 80 that year. Grupo Gay da Bahia didn't release a crowd count, but estimated that visitors spent at least R$18 million in the city that day. A state tourism survey from the 17th edition found that visitors stayed an average of 5.5 nights. The 2027 date hadn't been announced when we checked.
