About This Event
Guayaquil's Marcha del Orgullo, the main LGBTIQ+ street event on Ecuador's coast, has been fighting for its route since 2008. It wasn't until 2014 that the collective Silueta X, led by trans activist Diane Rodríguez, secured the first municipal authorisation for the parade. By 2017, the state's citizen-participation council reported over 10,000 marchers.
The event has faced setbacks: in 2023, Mayor Aquiles Álvarez initially refused the downtown route, but a court intervened, ordering the march to proceed on 1 July. Two years later, the city denied a permit for the closing festival in Plaza del Centenario - the first time in 16 years the march ended without one. That year's slogan, 'Marchamos pero no festejamos' (we march, but we don't party), reflected the mood.
The march takes place on a Saturday near 28 June, capping off a month of Orgullo Guayaquil events. For 2026, the date was chosen by an online vote on the organizers' site. On Saturday, 27 June 2026, marchers gathered at 15:00 in Parque Centenario and walked down Avenida 9 de Octubre to the Malecón 2000. The day ended with the first PRIDELY FEST, a free concert on the Palacio de Cristal esplanade, headlined by Millenium from 18:00.
That month also saw the city's first inclusive jobs fair at the Centro Cultural Olmedo. The march itself is free.
The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
