About this place Atlanta Eagle

The Atlanta Eagle carries more history than almost any bar in the American South. Located on Ponce de Leon Avenue in a building that has housed gay bars in various forms for decades, the Eagle achieved national prominence — and notoriety — when Atlanta Police Department officers raided it in September 2009, forcing patrons to lie face-down while officers conducted a warrantless search. The raid, which resulted in no criminal charges and was subsequently found to have violated patrons' constitutional rights, galvanised Atlanta's LGBTQ+ community and prompted a civil rights lawsuit that was eventually settled in the community's favour. The bar that emerged from that experience carries the weight of that history alongside its identity as a leather and bear venue. The Eagle is part of the Eagle Bar network with locations across the US — each independently operated but sharing the brand's identity around leather, masculinity, and community. Regular bear nights, leather events, and the ongoing programme of the Atlanta leather calendar run through the Eagle. For visitors interested in both the bar scene and the civil rights history of LGBTQ+ Atlanta, this is an essential stop.

Pretty good. Except for one abrasive older staff member I've bumped into when you have to pay a cover fee for special weekend events, everyone else is pretty professional, and at times, down to have an honest chat. Drinks are a bit pricey, but it's to be expected in big cities like Atlanta. The crowd is pretty friendly and except for some very unfortunate encounters once or twice in passing, pretty much everyone is seemingly accepting to all ages, body types, and ethnic groups. They even allow women (cis and trans) in the Eagle, but opinion on if it should varies from person to person. Nobody really gives a damn as long as someone (man or woman) isn't trying to assault them. Expect sexual activity occuring in the back where the "darkroom" is and expect men in leather gear; this is the Atlanta Eagle, after all. You can come alone or with a group. Fair warning, the Atlanta Eagle tends to have some friend group regulars. If they approach you, feel free to join, but don't be upset if they act like you're a decorative house plant that suddenly developed the ability to speak lol. Note: A big negative I can think of is the music. Music can be so loud at times you can't hear yourself think. To be honest, I'm surprised nobody has damaged their hearing from that. Overall? A place where the LGBT community can come and have a good time, mostly. Sometimes, it's meh, but the meh experiences are definitely smaller than the great ones. 9/10, will come again.

It's a pretty mixed bag. A mix of midtown moon and leather harnesses. Bigger dancefloor, but started charging a cover. I love the THC options, but still can't get Jameson at every bar. It feels conflicted between what it was as the old Eagle, what it was as Midtown Moon, and what the community wants and needs it to be. Some nights the bar is just a beautiful mix of queer culture other nights it's just pretty meh and forgettable.

Overall a good bar if you want to see a drag show . Also I liked the diversity in the people here . The space is limited for the drag though , I would suggest reserving a table as you can’t hear anything if you’re standing and it’s very limited . Also the parking here isn’t great , I would suggest getting there before 9pm as me and my friend did but be aware as my friend’s car was hit in the parking lot with out any notice to them .
