About this place Time Out Youth Center

Time Out Youth is the Charlotte region's dedicated center for LGBTQ+ young people, serving those roughly 13 to 24 years old. From its Monroe Road home in the Cotswold area, it runs a welcoming drop-in center, peer support and discussion groups, mentoring, a host-home and emergency-housing program for youth experiencing homelessness, and school-based Gay-Straight Alliance support across the Carolinas. Founded in 1991, it's one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ youth organizations in the Southeast and a first point of contact for families and young people looking for community and resources. Travelers won't visit as a nightlife stop, but it's a good example of Charlotte's organized queer infrastructure and a place to point younger visitors or newcomers toward support.

Trans men stay as far away as you can. This group discriminated against me for going by he/him pronouns to the point that it has continually affected my life for a decade. They told me that it's wild I am so concerned about safety in housing, being a man (Trans men are the group most likely to be sexually assaulted when divided by gender. I live as a woman full time also. I had come to them for help escaping a dangerous situation). I had to lie about my pronouns to be treated decently for even an afternoon. At the time I was a terrified child with no resources. They deleted two of my previous reviews about this. Thanks for so much worse than nothing Time Out Youth!

i have so many amazing things to say about time out youth! as an lgbtq, neurodivergent, and disabled teenage girl, i've always struggled to fit into groups and make friends. on my first day here i made 5-6 close friends immediately!! everyone is so so sweet and welcoming, and its such a safe space to just be yourself. there's snacks, video games, art supplies, and and everyone is super energetic and bubbly and the vibes are so fun. there's also recourses for lgbtq youth in need- such as free therapy, hygiene supplies, meals, etc! as someone with a family who's greatly struggling with money this is so vital nowadays!! 🥹 if you're a teen looking for a fun, queer, and super welcoming space, i ABSOLUTELY recommend coming to TOY! 🥹🏳️‍🌈

I think people should stop being mean to lqbtq people because they are so rude towards people who are gay and it’s annoying that I get pushed and bullied for being gay everyone should be able to be themselves

Best place in Charlotte. Supportive environment for lgbtq+ youth with tons of resources and the best staff.
