TLDR: Do not stay here if you need WiFi in your room. Across seven short stays in the past two months, WiFi has worked twice, and these two stays were the first two. Across a Linux device, a travel router, and various Apple devices, they all connect to the unsecured SSID but return a message that no internet connectivity is available. Maybe there would be a better result at the Holiday Inn Express next door, but I never felt like paying a higher rate to find out. The casino is the gaming equivalent of a dive bar. It’s locals slumped over poorly-maintained, low-paying machines (the table games are gone) while the music playlist contains songs that would serve as an ideal score for an unmade Kubrick movie where the main character slowly takes their own life. Imagine Steely Dan’s worst song played at 70% speed. The food is marginal and staff can be standoffish if they don’t know you. It’s like high school cliques if you went to high school in a (smoky) mausoleum, which could actually be convenient since you might die in the dodgy hotel elevators while you’re there. Hat tip to the casino marketing staff though, as there’s almost always some kind of promotion to try livening the place up.
We dined at the Railroad Pass Iron Rail Cafe and had the best service from Gary! We make it a point to stop by that Cafe every time we pass through Henderson! They have great food at great prices and the service is terrific!
I had a delicious prime rib dinner at the café. Very affordable and service was friendly.
Enjoy the stopover, before you get into town.. just a nice break.
