Arizona Gay Rodeo
About This Event
The Arizona Gay Rodeo is a three-day IGRA-sanctioned rodeo run by the Arizona Gay Rodeo Association (AGRA) at Corona Ranch and Rodeo Grounds in Laveen, on Phoenix's south side. It takes place in February, not March. The Smithsonian's archives hold a programme for the "First Annual Arizona Gay Rodeo" dated January 1986, and AGRA billed the 2026 rodeo as its 40th anniversary.
Contestants compete in the standard events: bull riding, steer riding, chute dogging, calf roping on foot, barrel racing, pole bending and team roping. There are also the gay-rodeo camp events: steer decorating, the wild drag race and goat dressing. Spectators can enter a community goat-dressing contest and watch mutton bustin' on the Saturday. Party buses run from Charlie's, the Phoenix country bar that hosts a mini rodeo on the Thursday.
Tickets cost $25 a day on agra-phx.com or at the gate. There are no weekend passes, children 12 and under get in free, and the venue charges $10 per car. Gates open at 8am and the rodeo starts at 10am. Pets aren't allowed.
The 2026 rodeo ran from 13 to 15 February. AGRA has announced the 41st rodeo for 12 to 14 February 2027.
