About this place Corona Heights Park

Just above the Castro, Corona Heights is a craggy red-rock summit with some of the widest views in San Francisco — and, like neighboring Buena Vista Park, a quiet reputation as a gay cruising spot after dark. The scrub-lined trails and boulders on the park's flanks give it the seclusion that has long made it popular, though it's far more low-key than it once was. It's a genuinely great sunset hike first and foremost, so plan your visit around the view and keep any cruising to the evening and to the edges of the main trail. The footing is rocky and completely unlit at night, so wear real shoes and bring a light; stick to areas you can leave quickly; and be considerate of the dog park, the Randall Museum, and the residential streets that ring the hill. Basic street smarts apply — stay aware, keep valuables on you, and let a friend know your plans.
