Gay Shops in London: The Honest 2026 Guide
The honest summary: London still has a small but real set of gay shops: Britain's oldest LGBTQ+ bookshop, two Prowler stores and Clone Zone in Soho, and a handful of specialist fetish makers in south and east London. Several famous names have gone (Expectations, and GEAR on its old site), so check before you make a trip.
Books and culture
Gay's the Word, 66 Marchmont Street, Bloomsbury: open since 1979 and the UK's oldest LGBTQ+ bookshop. New and second-hand queer fiction, history and theory, plus readings and discussion groups. Tuesday to Saturday 11:00-18:00, Sunday 13:00-18:00, closed Monday. Close by, the free Queer Britain museum at King's Cross reopened in February 2026.

Soho
- Prowler, 5-7 Brewer Street: the chain's Soho flagship for clothing, underwear, swimwear and gifts. Open daily until 21:30 (22:30 on Friday and Saturday).
- Prowler RED, 50 Old Compton Street: Prowler's fetish store for leather, rubber, sports gear and toys.
- Clone Zone, 35 Old Compton Street: on the street since the early 1980s, with underwear, clubwear, harnesses and toys. Open until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday.
- Regulation, 13a Bateman Street, Soho: latex and leather made to measure since 1991, plus bondage gear. It moved from Islington; older guides still give the St Alban's Place address. Monday to Saturday 11:00-19:00, Sunday 12:00-17:00.
- Fetish Freak, 76 Bolton Crescent, near Oval: made-to-measure leather and latex, run by former Expectations staff. Closed Tuesday.
- Fetish Daddy, Spelman Street off Brick Lane: luxury leather and rubber; the first shop opened in late 2025. Weekdays 10:00-19:00, ring the doorbell.
- FETCH, Voltaire Road, Clapham: swimwear, underwear and pup gear, in the arch next to the ARCH bar.
- Expectations, Shoreditch: closed. GEAR London, which took over the site, is also listed as closed.
- ESMALE: online only. Its Balham unit is a warehouse, not a shop.
