About the event

Join us to attend the German Premier of the documentary film Our Colors Never Fade.

Some of you may know Jim McSherry, one of our members. Over the last few years he has been traveling to Ukraine to talk to LGBTQIA+ soldiers, civilians, and families about their experiences serving on the front-line, and the changing attitudes to queer people. He has directed and produced a documentary, which is now having its German premier as part of the Berlin Freedom Week.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, ordinary citizens chose to stay and defend their homeland. Among them are members of the LGBTQIA+ community, who not only faced the dangers of war but also the weight of prejudice and targeted persecution. Our Colors Never Fade offers an intimate portrait of these soldiers and civilians through personal reflections and frontline experiences. Their stories reveal courage, sacrifice, and humanity in the midst of conflict, challenging stereotypes while illuminating a community fighting for both national freedom and the right to exist.

I saw the documentary at a pre-screening, and I came away feeling both outrage at the terrible situation that has been imposed on the Ukrainian people, and hope for both the country and members of the queer community there.

You can reserve free tickets here: [https://www.doxumentale.de/film/our-colors-never-fade](https://www.doxumentale.de/film/our-colors-never-fade). The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles. There will be a Q&A after.

Unfortunately I will be traveling on this date so can't attend, but I encourage you to go!
