About this place Clever Little Tailor

Clever Little Tailor is one of Adelaide's most admired small bars — a cosy, expertly operated venue on Peel Street in the West End that has become a go-to for Adelaide's queer-friendly bar crowd. The bar is part of Adelaide's vibrant laneway and small-bar scene, a cultural phenomenon that has transformed the city's nightlife over the past decade and produced a network of intimate, character-rich venues that represent the city's drinking culture at its best. The cocktail list at Clever Little Tailor is taken seriously and changes regularly to reflect the team's interests and the seasons. The atmosphere is deliberately intimate — low lighting, good music at a conversational volume, and the sense that the people who work here care about the experience of the people who drink here. The crowd is mixed and includes a strong LGBTQ+ contingent from the surrounding inner-city residential community. The bar's position in Peel Street, one of Adelaide's most celebrated small-bar lanes, means it sits within a cluster of excellent venues that reward an evening of exploration. For LGBTQ+ visitors to Adelaide who want to experience the city's bar culture at its most refined — away from the large venues and the nightclub scene — Clever Little Tailor is the ideal representation of what Adelaide has built in its compact, walkable inner city.

Located in Peel Street, off Hindley Street, is this wonderful bar. They have a great selection of drinks and snacks and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable of what they do. This place has a lovely atmosphere with the service being just exceptional.

What a lovely evening … Savannah and Holly were so kind, attentive and generous with their time and service (and beautiful people). Drinks and cocktails were great and the best Guinness I’ve had in Australia

We visited one evening and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and a couple of dishes of olives. Their wine menu is quite extensive - and also quite expensive. (Most bottles of wine began around $70 and went up from there). We had wine by the glass and enjoyed the ambience of the night lit laneway and the establishment eclectic grooves. The service was pleasant, prompt and friendly. Definitely worth a visit - even for just a single glass of wine to savor.

We visited on a Friday night for an after-dinner drink following a date-night meal. We were greeted promptly, taken to two free seats (they were very busy) and given menus. After deliberating over the extensive cocktail list for 5 mins we decided on what we wanted. However it was another 15-20 minutes until somebody came to take our order. We watched multiple people coming in and being served before us. This was upsetting as we were so close to the bar that the staff could easily see that we were ready to order. The gentleman who sat us down when we arrived was more interested in standing around, talking and joking to his co-workers behind the bar than serving us which made us feel awkward. When we finally did get to order and receive our cocktails, they were fantastic, no faults there. Lovely atmosphere and set up, just a shame on the service. Wouldn't rush back.

Tucked away in a beautiful Adelaide laneway is this delightful bar. So promising from the outside, think Melbourne laneway chic… Clever Little Tailor does not disappoint. Beautifully decorated and thoughtfully lit. Warm, inviting and edgy. Capable, professional and charming, the staff are a mix of efficiency and friendly service. Big enough to have atmosphere and ambience, small enough for an intimate catchup. Great cocktail list, music and olives. Loved it!🍸

I walked in alone for a quick cocktail before going home, was ignored, then a group of girls walked in and he served them I was like um hello - drink came out half full - atmosphere was not at all there - bad service - compared to everywhere else you could go, I would NOT go here. Overrated and cocktail was below average.

I went to this bar last night. After leaving I was approached by a young female bar staff member who said I hadn't paid my tab. After my friend spoke to our colleagues it was established that none of us had a tab and each round of drinks had been paid for in full when they were ordered at the bar. This young female with a light brown bob haircut proceeded to accuse me of not paying for a round of drinks, even after presenting my receipt. This continued for several minutes and I have never been treated with such contempt and publicly humiliated in such a way. An older man who I assume may have been the manager stood by and let her continue to make false accusations, so I can only can conclude that he supported her reprehensible conduct. I was in the company of officers of the Court, and was finally able to leave, with her parting comment that I had been given a free round of drinks. No apology was offered even after proving I had paid for what I had ordered. Whatever the point of sale system this establishment has in place is clearly flawed and one must wonder how many other patrons have been subjected to the same false accusations and perhaps unwittingly been charged for drinks they didn't consume. We were there to support small business and without customers you have no business. I can only hope that this staff member receives proper training and exercises judgement based on fact in future. I strongly recommend paying for drinks as they are ordered and insisting on a receipt. I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I received as a law abiding citizen and will never recommend this place to anyone, much less return.

We were seated and completely ignored. The server said he would be back to take our orders and never did. There was another man that arrived after us and served his drink immediately. I understand waiting but the server was simply standing behind the bar chatting with his colleagues. We ended up just leaving.

The drinks are 10/10 but the fridge smells pretty bad. I’m sitting right in the direction of the air and I would not recommend. Drinks are fantastic though. Recommend the gin and juice. Service is great.

We were looking for a place for pre dinner drinks that would become our local having just relocated. This looked the goods. We obviously didn’t. After rudely interrupting the bar staff to order a round of drinks and table snacks we were ignored but watched enviously as ‘cool and Groovy hipsters or members of a unknown clan walked to be treated like royalty.
