The Great Southern Hotel Brisbane

The room was big and confortable ! There is some work at the moment but it was a pleasure to stay there ! Very close to a lot of attractive places in Brisbane !

Location is fantastic for the price , had a great view of the Brisbane river too Service from Shakir and other staffwas great. Construction works happening but haven’t been bothered by it much An in house laundry service would be nice but not necessary since there’s a lot of laundromats around and the wifi is pretty shocking ended up using my data and hotspot. Minor fixes would make it a 5 star experience

I think I have found my new favorite place to stay in the CBD. Recently renovated rooms, and after a couple of years those renovations are now nearly finished. It's only a short walk to Queen St, Botanical Gardens and there are a lot of cafes and food options nearby. You only have to walk 20 meters over the road to the new Star Casino and the walk bridge (Neville Bonner bridge) which is an easy stroll over to Southbank. The beds were comfy and quiet, the block out curtains were great for keeping the room dark in the morning. It was easy to find, the carpark was tight, but it's still being renovated. All the staff were friendly and I look forward to coming back & staying there again next time I have to visit Brisbane.

The hotel experience was TERRIBLE! I checked in at 4 pm on 16 Feb 2026 and have checked out in 4 hours! It had bugs in the room. The AC did not work. It was HOT stuffy AND CLAUSTROPHOBIC. The bathroom lock did not work. It was broken. The wifi did not connect. The outside corridor to my room had a strong stench of weed, which is a banned and illegal substance in Australia. This was all verified by the hotel front office Person Shakir Hameed. To make matters worse, I sent an email with photos of the bugs in the room to the hotel after their front office person verified everything.And they have written back staking NO CLAIM to any of the points.I have never seen such pathetic service in my life.It is appalling! With our email exchange and pathetic response below to not stake claim of anything and Saying the room was "operational during my stay" is more than demeaning for you and your hotel when we both know that these were real issues. To say that you cannot provide a refund based on these to a seriously disgruntled customer is TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I am seriously appalled by this attitude. I did not think that a reputable hotel like yours would have this kind of attitude. It goes to show how people working in an establishment ( who admit to serious grave issues like this - bugs in the room which is a big sanitary concern, weed being smoked outside, AC not working) spoil the reputation of a good establishment due to their short sighted nature. JUST ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!

Really nice room. Only thing I didn't like is that there was no mini bar or room service.

The room stank of chlorine and was the dustiest room I have ever seen as if that room had never seen a vacuum cleaner. The aircon was noisy and you couldn't change the temp. The hallway was filthy and the elevators were even worse. The carpark is tiny, too small for a medium size car, partly flooded and smelled of damp and all the signage was removed due to the renovations. The staff were friendly, decent and helpful although the building itself is in poor condition. The auto checkout tried to charge me twice and the breakfast was inedible. As bad as this place was I want to emphasise how good the staff was all things considered. I will not be returning to this place of business. Standards exist for a reason.
