About this place Tahiti Pearl Beach Resort

Tahiti Pearl Beach Resort is on Lafayette Beach in Arue, a black-sand bay about 15 minutes' drive east of Papeete. It's a mainstream resort listed as gay-friendly, not a gay hotel. Rooms face the sea, there's direct beach access, and the property rates 4.1 on Google from more than 1,000 reviews. It makes a useful first or last night near the airport and Papeete before heading to Moorea or Bora Bora. French Polynesia follows French law, including same-sex marriage. Tahitian culture also has a long-recognised third-gender (māhū) tradition.

Terrible service! We made a mistake in our booking date. We kept asking, calling, and leaving messages. Despite having rooms available for the date we needed, they rejected all our requests. And they took our money, knowing full well we wouldn't be able to fly back until the end of the year. I highly recommend not dealing with them!

We had a Polynesian buffet dinner on Valentine's Day, it was excellent! And the show was beautiful too.

The hotel is located just outside Papeete, right on a black sand beach. The location is generally beautiful, however, getting into the sea takes some getting used to: after just a few meters, it suddenly becomes deep. When getting out, you have to climb over a rocky mound, which is easy to slip on. We didn't find this particularly pleasant. There were plenty of sun loungers, but unfortunately, the ones under the trees were very dirty. We had a room with a kitchen, but it was very poorly equipped. Plates of different sizes, mismatched cutlery, a frying pan, a pot, and a colander – that was about it. Anyone actually wanting to cook here will quickly reach their limits. The washing machine was helpful in our case. However, there was no detergent. Breakfast was okay, but the buffet was nothing special. The food in the restaurant also didn't impress us – overall rather average and not a culinary highlight. On the plus side, the hotel shuttle to town is a real plus. It's really convenient, as the hotel is located a bit outside the city. Overall, we had expected a bit more from the accommodation.

An all-encompassing experience in every sense of the word. It's not for everyone, obviously, considering the prices, but it's also worth noting that they serve raw fish at breakfast, buffet style, for example.
