About this place Hilton Beach (Gay Beach)

Hilton Beach is where Tel Aviv's gay scene begins every morning. Located at the north end of the city's main promenade, directly below the Hilton Hotel, this strip of Mediterranean sand has functioned as the unofficial gay beach since the 1970s — long enough to have its own mythology, its own regulars, and its own social rituals. Beach chairs and umbrellas rent for a modest hourly fee. A bar serves cold drinks and light food from mid-morning. On summer afternoons a DJ plays and the crowd thickens until the beach flows naturally into the sunset and the evening's parties. Volleyball courts, a relaxed dress code (very relaxed — anything goes), and a body-positive, age-inclusive atmosphere distinguish it from the more fashion-conscious beaches elsewhere on the promenade. This is also where LGBTQ+ visitors from neighbouring countries quietly find each other. That subtext is always present.
