About This Event

Ulaanbaatar's Pride — the LGBT Centre Mongolia calls it Equality and Pride Days — is one of Asia's bravest, held every year in a country where being openly queer still carries real social risk. It usually runs for about ten days from late August into early September; the Centre announces the exact dates and programme closer to the time.

This is not a street festival, and for good reason. The city authorities have refused to approve a public Equality March since 2019, so Pride here is deliberately kept indoors and among trusted spaces: community theatre, a queer film festival, panel discussions and a Pride party that has drawn well over a thousand people, alongside public-awareness campaigns that are, sadly, often vandalised. Across the events the Centre has counted a few thousand participants. Whether an approved public march returns in any given year is never guaranteed.

The LGBT Centre Mongolia, founded in 2007, is the sole organiser and the place to check for what is on and how to take part safely.

Practical notes: this is a discretion-first environment. Follow the Centre's guidance on which events are public and which are community-only, do not out anyone, and treat locations shared in trusted channels as private. For visitors with genuine reasons to be there, supporting the Centre — rather than seeking a visible scene — is the point.
