Auckland's cruising scene centres on one indoor club and one well-known outdoor spot.
Indoor
Lateshift — Lateshift is Auckland's gay men's cruise club, a sex-on-site venue just south of the K Road/Queen Street intersection in Eden Terrace. It has a maze, play rooms, cubicles, videos, showers and a relaxed lounge, and is open nightly. It is the city's main dedicated cruising space and the most comfortable, discreet option.
Outdoor
Auckland Domain — the city's oldest and largest park, between Grafton and Parnell — has long appeared in gay guides as an after-dark meeting place for men, focused on the wooded margins away from the sportsfields and Wintergardens. New Zealand decriminalised homosexuality in 1986 and Auckland is broadly tolerant, but the Domain is a public park: general public-decency laws apply, the grounds are unlit and isolated at night, and discretion and personal safety are essential. Carry a charged phone, let someone know where you are, and keep any encounter consensual and low-key.
