What reviewers say

Visitors consistently praise the Wheelhouse Inn & Captains Quarters for its stunning sea views and spacious, clean accommodations, with many feeling very welcome. However, a common point of concern is the challenging steep driveway and the necessity of a car due to its location away from the town center.

Family of four and stayed in the Captain’s quarters. Kids loved the bunk beds. Incredible views, very clean and tidy and great hosts. Will definitely return.

4 of us stayed at the Upper Deck apartment which had an amazing view of the seafront. The apartment was well equipped. The location was convenient being only about 5 minutes' drive to the town center where one finds all the restaurants. We would defintely stay here again if we visit Nelson again.

During our 4-week trip through New Zealand, we spent one night in Nelson at the Wheelhouse Inn. Location: Situated in a very nice residential area on a hill, about 3 km from the city center. The view of the sea and the offshore islands is breathtaking. Parking is available in front of the apartments. The driveway can be a bit challenging depending on the driver's experience, but don't worry, take it slow, anyone can manage it ;-) Apartment: We stayed in "The Lookout." Simply fantastic, the atmosphere is magical! Three levels. Living area, kitchen, and balcony are on the entrance level. Very spacious, with a beautiful and well-equipped kitchen and access to the balcony. The bedroom upstairs has a large window and a small toilet with a sink. The bathroom is on the lowest level, which isn't ideal, but you can't have everything! The furnishings are fantastic, everything is in excellent condition and spotlessly clean. Beautiful details throughout the apartment, all very tasteful, carefully and thoughtfully selected. It's a shame we only stayed one night; Nelson and the surrounding area have a lot to offer, and the "Wheelhouse" is a perfect base for exploring everything and perhaps even cooking for yourself – the apartment is very inviting!

I could not believe how trully wonderful this place was, it was probably the most memorable place that my family and I have ever stayed at, the views were spectacular, and driving here from Christchurch through Blehiem was nothing short of magnificant. The beds were comfy, the full size kitchen was functional and the wild birds outside were just incredible. It consisted of the main bedroom upstairs, and the kids bedroom with 2 bunk beds , and a fold out double couch bed in the living room. It was the highlight og my stay In NZ, when I travelled from Australia. Its just a matter of time before I rebook.
