About this place Ivy Bar & Cabaret

Ivy Bar & Cabaret is Wellington's flagship LGBTQ+ venue, sitting in the heart of the Cuba Street arts quarter in Te Aro. Spread over street-level bar and an upstairs cabaret space, it bills itself as a "drag den and rainbow refuge" and runs a firm zero-tolerance harassment policy. The programme leans hard into live queer performance: drag shows, cabaret, comedy nights, karaoke and a queer book club, alongside DJ sets that turn the room into a small dancefloor later in the night. Descended from the older Club Ivy (which moved here from Dixon Street), Ivy is open Wednesday through Saturday from the evening and functions as both the city's main gay bar and its de facto nightclub. It is a short walk from the Cuba Street Rainbow Crossing and most central accommodation.

Went to karaoke night. Didn't get to sing. One table maxed out the entire automated system for the hole night... this is the capitals leading gay bar? Pathetic.

So much fun!! Came when it was pretty slow on a Sunday but had an amazing time doing karaoke that the bartender joined in on. So much fun so inclusive would definitely go again
