About This Event
Seoul's Transgender Day of Remembrance rally and march takes place on a weekend close to 20 November, honouring trans people killed by violence and hate. It's been held in Itaewon, Yongsan, every year since 2018, organised by Trans Liberation Front and backed by a slew of co-hosting groups. The fact that South Korea still lacks an anti-discrimination law makes this day as much a political statement as a memorial.
It starts with an afternoon rally - speeches, performances, the works - followed by a march through the neighbourhood. In 2023, police banned part of the route past the presidential office in Yongsan, and a court upheld the decision, so marchers took a detour.
The 2024 edition, held on Saturday, 16 November, kicked off at 3pm at Itaewon Square, near exit 3 of Noksapyeong station. The slogan was TRANS PRIDE, and Korean Sign Language interpretation was available. Between 48 and 56 organisations co-hosted, including the Seoul Queer Culture Festival committee.
Details for 2025 are unclear. As of our last check, the 2026 date hadn't been announced, but given past trends, it'll likely fall on the Saturday before 20 November.
