Gay Bars & Clubs in Chiang Mai: The Honest 2026 Guide
The honest summary: Chiang Mai has about half a dozen gay bars, two of them with nightly drag cabaret, spread over three pockets rather than one street. There is no late-night gay club; most places close around 1am. The scene is relaxed, cheap and easy to do in a night or two.
Where to go out
Charoen Prathet Soi 6 and the Night Bazaar. The busiest pocket, a lane running from Chang Klan Road through the Kalare Night Bazaar towards the river. Ram Bar, Connections and Orion are on the lane and 6ixcret Show is around the corner. Chang Phueak and Santitham, north of the old city, has Adam's Apple Club and New Circle Club. Nimman has BLOW CNX. Grab rides between the three cost little.
The bars
Ram Bar
48 Charoen Prathet Road, at the river end of Soi 6, across from the Anantara. Open about 7pm to 1am nightly. The free drag cabaret is the main event; sources put the start between 8pm and 10pm, running to about 11:30pm. It draws gay visitors, expats and straight tourists who come for the show. Get a table before 9pm.
Adam's Apple Club
Lotus Hotel complex, Viangbua Road, Chang Phueak. Running for more than 30 years. Its website describes a male go-go, host and show club, open 9pm to 1am with a show at 10pm. Entry is free; dancers work the room, and drinks for staff and "off" fees are how it makes money. Ask about prices before you order.
6ixcret Show
Second floor of the Night Bazaar Building, off Chang Khlan Road. Drag cabaret with doors around 7pm and the show at about 9:30pm. It lost its original lease in January 2021 and reopened here. Its Google reviews kept coming through 2026, though one 2026 guide listed it as closed, so check its Facebook page on the day.
BLOW CNX
Soi Sai Nam Phueng, Nimman. The west side's gay bar, with a DJ most nights and drag on Thursdays and Saturdays. Roughly 6pm to 1am, closed Wednesdays. The crowd is younger and mostly Thai.
Connections
89/2 Kalare Night Bazaar, Charoen Prathet Soi 6, between Orion and Ram Bar, opposite Le Méridien. A smoke-free chat bar that moved here in late 2024; open daily from 6pm, according to its own website. Some map pins still show the old Changklan Road spot.
Orion Bar
Charoen Prathet Soi 6. A small open-air beer bar, roughly 5pm to midnight, good for a cheap drink before the shows. An old Moon Muang Road address still circulates online; it is wrong.
Chiang Mai 19 Bar
Behind the Night Bazaar in Chang Moi. A casual outdoor bar listed by Travel Gay; details are thin, so check recent reviews.
New Circle Club
161/7-8 Soi Arawan, north of the old city. Formerly Circle Pub. Travel Gay lists a host bar with dancers, 8pm to 1am. Nomadic Boys (2026) says it no longer runs drag.
Sapphic Riot
56/1 Singharat Road, old city. Queer-owned, and in Time Out Chiang Mai's words the city's only official lesbian and queer space, for women who love women and non-binary people. Drinks, mocktails and WLW hangouts.
Sound Up
Moon Muang Road Soi 2, old city. A mainstream dance club that Utopia-Asia and Nomadic Boys list as a mixed Saturday option, about 9pm to 2am. It stays open later than the gay bars.
Shows
Besides the drag at Ram Bar and 6ixcret, two ticketed tourist cabarets with transgender casts run nightly: Siam Dragon Show at 12 Huay Kaew Road and Miracle Cabaret on Chang Phueak Road.
Gone but still Googled
- Secrets Bar (Charoen Prathet Road): listed as closed by Nomadic Boys in June 2026; its website is dead.
- Pandee, Jacky, Route 181 and New My Way: on the same 2026 closed list.
- Soho Bar (Huay Kaew Soi 3): closed in 2016.
- Lotus Hotel garden bar: the local guide lists the Lotus Hotel as closed; Adam's Apple Club in the complex is open.
- Thursday to Saturday are the busy nights; BLOW CNX peaks on its drag nights.
- In host and go-go bars, ask what a drink for a dancer costs and what the off fee is before you agree to anything.
- The drinking age is 20. Carry a copy of your passport.
- Dress is casual everywhere.
- Grab is cheap and reliable late at night; songthaews are fine for short hops if you agree the price first.
