Such a unique hotel in an ideal location for anyone wanting to escape the chaos of the tourist strip, or the cookie cutter experience of a large hotel chain. Warm wood tones surround effortlessly curated interiors, attentive and incredibly responsive staff. Highly recommended.
TL;DR: boutique hotel, beautiful architecture, a small space packed with luxury and comfort (including a big round bathtub and very comfy bed), impeccable hospitality, great location for a slower traveller. We booked a last minute stay in the Jira room at Na Tanao 1969 through their website (basically booked it the night before). I emailed for a clarification late in the night on whether they could hold onto our baggage before check-in, and got near instant replies (saying yes of course). First impressions on arrival - the hotel stands out when you cross it. The facade of the hotel, though tucked in between two buildings, is unique (and would have made me quite curious if I didn’t already know what it was). There’s a statue on the opposite side (an old heritage marker, something to do with royal palace entries), and the hotel’s half-rustic, half-futuristic architecture creates an interesting contrast. Walking in - the lobby (located on the first floor / one floor above the ground floor) has good music and a very cozy feel to it. The rooms (only 4 in the entire hotel) are on the second and third floors, accessible through a small lift (max 2-3 people) or stairs. We were met by Linn, who was extremely helpful and easy to talk to. The owner, Lynn, is also usually around and just as friendly. The back of the property was once Lynn’s home, and he developed it into what it is today. I appreciate places with personal history. We stayed in the Jira room - the words “pocket luxury” come to mind. The space is divided into four sections: 1. the entry (a small wooden room with a door to the toilet right next to the entrance, a table and a compact fridge tucked into the wall), 2. the corridor from the entry to the bedroom (with a fancy sink and mirror, pretty decent home speakers, a full-sized mirror, and a round window with a view of the statue across the road), 3. the bedroom at the end of the corridor (very comfy bed, floor to ceiling windows with near-blackout curtains, and a TV in the top corner above the bed), and 4. the bathroom (right off the corridor, with an almost ofuro-inspired but round and chest deep bathtub and onsen-like wooden walls). I’m glad I could come back here after walking and eating and drinking on the streets of Bangkok. The cafe on the ground floor (Piccolo cafe) was also nice and easily accessible. They also have stairs leading from the hotel lobby to the cafe, with a stairlift in case you have any trouble with the main staircase up to the lobby. Happy to see that accessibility was considered. The road is relatively quiet (especially compared to the neighbouring Khaosan street), but has some really good places to eat (my top two - POM Bakehouse Burgers and K. Panich’s mango sticky rice). Ideal for a traveller who isn’t looking for or doesn’t fare well in constant chaos. I didn’t face much of a noise issue at all (not sure if it’s louder on weekends though), and there were zero issues with cleanliness / hygiene / insects. Overall, one of my favourite stays so far - will be looking for a chance to come back.
Amazing location, top notch service, and a truly fabulous room. Linn was simply exceptional. He made sure our visit was perfect, with help at every point. We cannot say enough good about this hotel, the staff, and the location. It would be a mistake to not stay at Na Tanao 1969, as this hotel delivers five-star service - every day. We look forward to our next stay with Na Tanao 1969 on our next trip to Thailand 🙏🏼
