The honest summary: Antibes has no gay bar, no gay club, no gay sauna and no Pride. It is a town of about 77,600 people between Cannes and Nice, with a walled old town, a big yacht harbour and the beach resort of Juan-les-Pins. Same-sex couples get no trouble here, but for a night out you take the train. Cannes is 10 to 15 minutes away and Nice about 20 to 25. Antibes works as a base for the Riviera rather than a destination for the scene itself.
Legal in one line: France decriminalised homosexuality in 1791, repealed its last discriminatory age-of-consent law in 1982, introduced PACS civil unions in 1999, and opened marriage and adoption to same-sex couples on 17 May 2013. People have been able to change their legal gender without medical conditions since 2016, and conversion practices have been banned since January 2022.
What Antibes actually has
Gay guides and our own research found no venue in Antibes or Juan-les-Pins that presents itself as gay or queer in 2026. Several general Côte d'Azur guides say the same thing: the town has no scene of its own. The old town (Vieil Antibes), Port Vauban and the bars of Juan-les-Pins are mainstream and relaxed. You will see same-sex couples at dinner in summer and nobody minds, but there is no gay street and no regular queer night that we could confirm.
Two things in Antibes are useful to know:
- CeGIDD d'Antibes, 2067 Chemin de Saint-Claude. It is the public sexual-health centre run by the Alpes-Maritimes department, with free HIV, hepatitis and STI tests, PEP and PrEP. It is open on Tuesday afternoons (13:00 to 20:00) and Fridays (10:00 to 16:00). The main CeGIDD 06 centre is in Nice.
- Plage de la Batterie, just over the boundary in Vallauris (Golfe-Juan), about 3 km west of Juan-les-Pins. It is a naturist beach, listed on the official France tourism site, and gay guides place the gay section at its rocky western end. Golfe-Juan station is a short walk away. It is a public beach beside a busy road; naturism is fine, sex in public is an offence (article 222-32 of the penal code).
The beaches inside Antibes itself, including La Garoupe, La Salis, the Ponteil and the sand beaches of Juan-les-Pins, are ordinary family beaches. No source calls any of them gay or naturist, whatever older listings say.
Where to go out: Cannes and Nice
Cannes, 10 to 15 minutes west by TER, has a small set of gay and mixed bars in the centre. Sauna Le 9, in Le Cannet on the edge of Cannes, is the nearest gay sauna to Antibes. Travel Gay and misterb&b list it, with men-only days early in the week.
Nice, 20 to 25 minutes east by TER to Nice-Ville, is the Riviera's main scene. Most of it is in and around the Petit Marais quarter near the port and the old town: bars such as Le Glam, the Morgan cruising bar, and two gay saunas, Les Bains-Douches and Sauna du Château. Nice also has the Centre LGBTQIA+ Côte d'Azur and the region's associations. Trains run late enough in summer for an evening in Nice, but check the last train back before you go out, or plan on a taxi.
Pride and events
Antibes has no Pride. The nearest is the Pink Parade in Nice, organised by the association Aglaé; in 2026 it was held on Saturday 11 July. The 2027 date had not been announced at the time of writing. Nice also hosts Lou Queernaval, an LGBTQI+ carnival in late winter during the Nice Carnival season.
The big event in Antibes is Jazz à Juan, a mainstream jazz festival in the Pinède Gould in Juan-les-Pins. The 2026 edition ran from 9 to 19 July. Dates for 2027 had not been announced.
Where to stay
All the hotels we list in Antibes are mainstream properties. None of them is marketed as gay or as LGBTQ+, and we don't call any of them gay-friendly without a source. Refusing a double room to a same-sex couple would be illegal discrimination under French law.
- Central Antibes and the old town, for walking to the station, the port and restaurants: Le Relais du Postillon (8 Rue Championnet), Irin Hotel (Rue de la République) and Royal Antibes on the seafront.
- Juan-les-Pins, for beaches and July's jazz festival: Le 1932 Hotel & Spa (MGallery) and Hôtel Mas Djoliba.
- Cap d'Antibes, quiet and green but far from the centre: Hôtel Beau Site and La Garoupe Gardiole. Both are seasonal.
- North Antibes by car: SoBlue Hôtel (formerly the Marineland Hotel) in La Brague, and the Hapimag apartment resort.
Many Riviera hotels close from late October or November until spring, so check dates if you are travelling in winter. The only gay-specific place to stay we know of nearby is La Connexion, a men-only guesthouse in Peymeinade near Grasse, about 30 km and 40 minutes inland by car.
These names still come up in searches for "gay Antibes" or on older listings, including ours:
- Le Privilège is in Cannes (Rue Léopold Bucquet), not Antibes, and its own site describes it as a libertine club with a sauna, not a gay men's sauna.
- The Morgan cruising bar and Le Glam are in Nice.
- Lounge Bar CR (La Confrérie des Reines) on the Route de Grasse is a swingers' club for couples and women. Single men are not admitted, and it is not a gay venue.
- L'Endroit, a karaoke bar on Rue Aubernon, appears in one gay guide only. We could not confirm any gay link, so we don't list it.
- Plage du Layet is a naturist beach in Cavalière near Le Lavandou, in the Var. It is about two hours' drive from Antibes, not a local beach.
Getting there and getting around
Nice Côte d'Azur airport (NCE) is the nearest airport, about 20 km away. The Zou! express bus 82 runs from the airport to Antibes in about 40 minutes for €10.50, roughly once an hour.
Antibes station is on the main coast line. TER trains run to Cannes in 10 to 15 minutes and to Nice-Ville in 20 to 25. Juan-les-Pins has its own station, and Golfe-Juan station is the stop for Plage de la Batterie. Envibus local buses cover Cap d'Antibes, where you will want a bus or a bike, because it is 3 to 4 km from the old town.
