We stayed at the Hotel am Domplatz for three nights in mid/late June 2026. We were in Linz for business, and the hotel was recommended to us by the medical faculty of the JKU (Johannes Kepler University Linz). The location is fantastic, and we had a wonderful view of the cathedral from our corner room on the third floor. However, we're only giving it two stars because the hotel room was simply unbearable. Yes, it was very hot, but as soon as we entered the room, the heat was almost unbearable, even though all the windows were closed, all the curtains drawn, and the blinds lowered. We were told that the cooling ceiling only works when the room key is in the switch. They set the temperature for the cooling ceiling to -5 and assured us that it would be comfortably cool within the next two to three hours. We returned around 6:00 p.m., and it was still sweltering in the room. We bought a thermometer at Media Markt, and it showed 27°C in the room. We then complained about this at reception. A quarter of an hour later, a young man, let's call him Mr. Km, appeared in the room. With his arms folded, he explained, somewhat curtly in my opinion, that unfortunately he couldn't do anything. That's just how it is, he said, and the system wasn't registering any error messages. He offered us cold drinks as compensation. According to Estrics, a company I know quite well, it's probably a fault with the system, as the temperature in the room didn't drop significantly, even at night. At least the much more attentive lady at reception was able to provide us with a fan for the last night. Since we kept the curtains drawn and the blinds lowered, we missed out on the wonderful view of the cathedral square. But overall, neither the air conditioning nor the complaint handling is worthy of a 4-star hotel.

Too loud! The ringing of the bells wakes you up; bulletproof glass should be installed here!

The hotel itself is good, with a good breakfast. However, the spa area was completely closed for an extended period without any prior warning. Yet, Booking.com still advertises the spa area as being open! And you have to add €20 per day for parking to the price.
