Best stay during our 3-weeks-biketrip: a 5-star hotel in really every respekt - from the chocolate goodie at arrival and the extraordinary breakfast buffet to the farewell cookie goodie with the checkout - highly to be recommended!!

Historical building to stay in. Staff was very polite and friendly. The canal view room was excellent and offered a great view and comfort. Some tips: 1. Highly recommend to opt for the breakfast. The breakfast area is in the cellar built somewhere in the 1500s. Great selection of fresh bread, pastries, cheese, ham, fruits, cereals, drinks and the cakes to die for. 2. Book the room from their website to get a box of free Belgian chocolates in your room. 3. If you are someone who can’t climb stairs, check with the hotel regarding the room as the hotel doesn’t have any lift.

I stayed at this hotel for three days, and it couldn't have been more disastrous and unpleasant. First, I made a reservation for four people, but since there were only three of us, I asked if they could move us to a three-person room on a lower floor, as the four-person room was located on the top floor (like an attic) and the hotel doesn't have an elevator. They rudely told me to cancel the reservation and make a new one, paying a higher price. I accepted that I had already made the reservation and paid for the four-person room on the top floor, even though there were only three of us. I also specified that I wanted a room with a canal view, even if it was more expensive. The response was to give me the worst room, which faced an emergency staircase (literally, the emergency exit was in my room). Furthermore, the room was not clean at all. When I arrived, the bathroom was unsealed and stained from the previous guests, and they hadn't even changed the sheets. I have never seen anything so unhygienic. When my stay ended, they told me I had to pay the tourist tax, which I didn't object to. Once I paid, they only gave me the card receipt—no invoice, no ticket, nothing. On top of that, I discovered that even though there were only three of us, they had charged us the tax for four people. When I went to complain politely, the reception staff rudely and arrogantly told me they had asked if I wanted to pay for three or four people, to which I supposedly replied four. How could they possibly understand? When I asked for the invoice/ticket for the tax, they said they had sent it to the email address of one of my companions, and when I asked if they had that email, they said no. They were extremely rude when you ask for a ticket or invoice. Finally, they refunded the overpaid tax in the form of a voucher to spend on drinks at the hotel itself—disgraceful… As for the location, it's a 10-minute walk from the city center, and the canal runs right by the hotel, but it's really not worth putting up with its shortcomings just because the canal is nearby. There's a 3-star hotel next door that, at least at first glance, seemed much better than this one, and you'll definitely find better options in the city center. This hotel supposedly has 4 stars, but I assure you that in Spain there are guesthouses with better service and that are cleaner than this hotel. If you can, avoid it.
